  • Gravel King sk 42 or WTB riddler 45 - for /tarmac/gravel/grass/forest trails

    Anyone used either?

  • I used the 38 SKs for a road and soggy over-dales cx ride this summer and was pretty impressed.

  • I've had the 42s on all summer. They have been fine for me, 1 puncture, handled well on those surfaces and not too bad on the smooth stuff.

  • Well, if this is true:

Casing fabrics vary between 15 TPI for coarse utility tires to 120 TPI for very high-end tires. What about the tires with 300 TPI or more? These makers count every layer of the tire. Most tires have three layers of overlapping casing, so by that method of counting, a 100 TPI fabric will make a 300 TPI tire.

    -Jan Heine

    And bicyclerollingresistance.com:

The Michelin Pro 4 Endurance is the toughest member of the Pro 4 range. It offers a 3x110 TPI casing, a Bi-Compound rubber compound, and an HD Protection layer that runs from bead to bead.

Though with that protection it won't be as fast, some other tyre from Michelin would be more comparable to the conti. I haven't had a Michelin since Krylion carbon, but these current ones are interesting.

edit: actually I did have a Pro 3 race briefly, destroyed in a month.

  • Fuck Jan and his supple sidewall but hard tread compound with zero grip

  • Krylion Carbon were ace.

Amazing puncture resistance, great in wet and really tough tyres loads of KM of life in them. BUT ride quality was just above average. I rode them relatively recently and was v. disappoint.

  • Gravel Kings are wank too. IMO.

  • Krylion Carbon were ace.

Still are. I bought a load when they discontinued them and I'm still using them. A great winter tyre.

  • Mine have disintegrated...

  • They were pretty comfy too, compared to other tyres as durable as them, at that time.

  • does anyone know where i can get wtb riddler in tanwall in the UK?

  • I'm trying to decide between the 2 -- at 28c tho. I can't seem to justify the cost of the turbo cottons.

  • 28c Corsas were nice in Mallorca. Do get cut up though.

  • Well @amey pointed out another issue which is my rims width/frame clearance might not allow for a 28c. I've also got a little frame too...

  • What's the expected lifespan of a pair of 35c marathon supremes? Commuter needs new tyres, have an done an estimated 3000 hard heavy miles on the 35c folding ribmos that are on there at the moment, including touring and a fair bit of riding on gravel/paths etc. Debating whether the extra cash for MS is worth it. Have been very happy with all aspects of the ribmos, fantastic commuting tyres.

The current ribmos have still got plenty of life left in them too, but quite a few knicks and cuts and they're rounded off to a normal profile. Would rather replace before I start getting punctures.

  • Dayum dat Turbo Dot Cotton @Dick

  • Indeed - fastest flashest tyre in the Wild West!

  • Have only managed to wear out a MS on the rear of the (often loaded) tandem, managed about 2000k. I would at least double that coz tandems each tyres.

  • 700x35c tyres. Gumwall would be nice. Anything to consider other than gravelkings? I could go slightly larger. Specialized sawtooth look rad but 40 quid each!

  • 40 quid and rather weighty at 615grs. Stick with gravel kings.

  • PANARACER PASELA PT TYRE WITH AMBER SIDEWAL Or Marathon Suprmeme?

  • Anything other than paselas

  • Paselas are poo in the wet and not marathon because I don’t have a hybrid.
    Will look at gravelkings

  • Supreme are not marathon plus. Actually quite nice rolling tyres. Paselas feel like they have a top speed of about 25mph. Trying to go faster even on steep downhill feels like riding through sludge. Horribly stiff ride too. My 40c knobbly WTBs are more comfortable on tarmac

  • Just look at this

    Absolutely not.
