  • Oh, I have a couple of these.

PortaPow Data Blocker USB Adaptor with SmartCharge
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/PortaPow-Data-Blocker-Adaptor-SmartCharge/dp/B00QRRZ2QM

  • I don't even remember doing it. Was it just because I'd done a bunch of lumpy 600s the other year? I'm not bothered about the medals but I do like completing stuff, ie. RRTY. Need to pull a finger out and get the Brevet 25000.

  • 3 entry forms, 3 cheques, 6 SAEs all winging themselves 1st class to Poole.

The paypal button for the 200 will get pushed when I next get payed.

Do the Wessex events normally fill up?

  • Do the Wessex events normally fill up?

I don't think so, on account of them being really hard.

  • Rode the Shark today, weather was shit I was expecting dry, low wind and about 16 degrees.

Got to Ide Hill and it was cold, wet and foggy, after Hogtrough it pissed it down all the way home.

Had to shower and head straight out to go to a gig, literally doing everything not to fall asleep on the tube right now.

  • If you're not having fun you're doing it wrong.

  • I mean I definitely still had fun, I could have been at work instead!

  • If you're not having fun you're doing it in England.

    ftfy

  • I thought that would have attracted the entrants!

A winter of hard graft ahead of me to get ready. If all goes to plan, I'll be 2/3s of the way too my target by the time Porkers comes around and I should be pretty hill hardened by then.

    He says.

  • I bet that was grim. Especially as the persistent light rain for a lot of the day wasn't forecast by any of my usual weather forecasting options.

But, as you rightly say, it beats working.

  • That does look pretty rough.

You get this validated by gps, or can it be done with receipts? (I remember info controls on the calendar)
Do you pick up the AAA as well?

  • I do my DIY's by mandatory GPS, you just have to follow the route you submit exactly.

You could also submit using receipts, its a bit more complicated but not much.

I have a few routes I've made myself which I use, the beauty of DIY is the ride starts and ends at your house so you don't need to get anywhere to ride.

Yes you get the AAA for DIY

  • Mainly as I wasn't expecting it I made some bad kit choices, such as not having any gloves or a rain jacket with me, normally I don't leave the house without it!

  • Another AWE tomorrow - marathon plus tyres have been fitted for winter, so this could be interesting. I really enjoyed this ride last week, so chosen this over Meridian Hills. (Felt a bit underwhelmed with that for some reason. Can't put my finger on it. Gonna ride that next week to see if its any different with some dark bits.).
Edit - underwhelmed is the wrong word. Surprised is more apt - I think perhaps I underestimated how hard it would be and failed to enjoy the sights as I was so busy grunting up climbs.
With the hour back and all that tonight, must not forget my lights.

@mustardbeak - rain jacket packed just in case.

In unrelated news - for no other reason than I want to see if I can do it, is there any reason why two rides in a day won't be validated?

  • I do my DIY's by mandatory GPS, you just have to follow the route you submit exactly.

I did my first DIY by mandatory GPS today but I added a couple of miles extra to the route I submitted as I rode to the start point and recorded that. I then followed the route exactly....presume that doesn't matter?

  • Nah it will be fine, I've gone off route due to bad route planning which took me on a terrible A road which I decided to take a massive detour round and it was still validated.

    A bit extra won't matter a jot.

  • Yep now we get some extra time in the dark, though I quite enjoy night riding now.

I've not done Meridian Hills, as the Shark starts on my doorstep I always end up doing that instead.

    Have a good day!

  • If you rode them back to back?

  • Yeah, back to back but validated as two separate rides.
Eg - start Meridian Hills at 0700 from Greent St Green, finish at 1900. Get second receipt from same place then ride Down to Downs.
I can't think of 300 I can pull off in a day that attracts AAA and be able to get home and sleep enough for work the next day, and I can't DIY a 300 and claim AAA without a GPS.
This fiendishly simple plan allows train home from finish if necessary too.

  • Routine has been done before etc.

  • Anyway looks you catching up quickly.

  • Goody goody.

I really want that 100AAA badge.

Porkers, Brimstone and Tan Hill 200 are too much of a risk at the minute to be not looking for those 18 points elsewhere - and there's only so many days I can ride.
