Strong work! They’re bloody good bars! Been toying with matching up the finishing kit on the Open with some ENVE bars but I genuinely can’t find a better pair of bars than those SuperZeros.

A question for the hivemind please:
Does anyone have experience running Shimano BH90 hose with R785 Calipers?
I’ve read on numerous forums that the BH90 hose can be run with R785 Calipers so long as the hose has the ‘banjo’ end on it.
I am toying with Shimano Dura Ace 9170 shifters paired with R785 Post Mount Calipers; from what I can see (I hope) the shifters should work fine with R785 calipers, and the BH90 hose that has to be used with R9170 shifters should actually tighten up the R785 performance.
I would like to check if anyone has experience of this.
Thankyouplease.

Cheers - I think I'll have to go for the new di2 switches, not particularly enamoured with their appearance but not sure what the option are. I even looked at putting xtr levers on (as well as the DA road shifters) but that would be lever overload!

Anyone seen 6870 gear set for better than £700?
Or should I just pull the trigger... cycle2work so needs to be new

SO can I replace 6870 cages quite easily? I want to retrofit a long cage on to my current short cage.
-
• #2734
yes, you can use the cage from a 6800 mechanical mech
-
• #2735
any reason why I can't use a 5800 mech?
-
• #2736
yeah the cage is different and won't fit on 5800 - I though the same and tried that initially as well.
-
• #2737
Shit. That’s annoying.
Thanks anyway.

buy medium cage 6800 rear derailleur, swap cages and sell the 6800 derailleur with the short cage on it - shouldn't lose more than £5-10

• #2739
Funnily enough, my colleague just broke her long cage 6800 mechanical rear derailleur, so she's gifted me that for parts. Having taken the mechanical one apart it looks to be an easy swap.

I have done as described and swapped the long cage from a 6800 mechanical derailleur over to the previously short cage 6870. Piece of piss, extremely easy to do.
I have, whilst fiddling with that, finally fucked beyond repair the tube between my junction A and junction B, and I have no fucking idea how @Chak threaded up there in the first place...

So last night I set up my first di2 groupset. Plugged everything in and it started shifting and everything was great. I connected to the etube app and it said there was an update available, so I said ok and it started updating...
Mid-way through, it failed and said the connection had been lost. I thought maybe just the battery was low or something, so I plugged it in to charge overnight. Found this morning that absolutely nothing happens, nothing when clicking the shifters, no lights on the junction box (even after holding it down for 5+ seconds). Re-checked all the connections and all seems fine still...
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try before asking LBS to flash the firmware..?

Re-checked all the connections
Have you tried unplugging/replugging the bits in?
Are you updating plugged in or over the air?
-
• #2743
Honestly, whilst I do love electronic groupsets, I have had more bullshit with the Di2 cables in my various wired bikes than I ever had with my cables.
eTap, on the other hand, faultless.

I've never had issues with Di2.
I snapped two different bike's gear cables last weekend.

I am trying to do stupid shit with mine, to be fair.

• #2746
I tried for some of them, but i'll double check again this eve.
Updating over the air with the iPhone app. Can you update the firmware with the charger cable, I thought I'd probably need something specific for doing that?
-
• #2747
I don't know, I've never updated my firmware since it works, why change it?
I presumed you could plug it in somehow and do the updates since the old batteries weren't bluetooth they must've had some way to update them. Yeah, looks like you just need the charger:
http://forums.roadbikereview.com/components-wrenching/diy-di2-firmware-update-346449.htmlUpdating firmware OTA is crazy. You crazy. #trustnowireless

Yeah in hindsight trusting a wireless firmware update was a terrible decision, I sort of hoped they'd have tested disconnections etc pretty well.
Ah cheers for that - I'll take a look and see if I can flash it myself. Fingers crossed!

Let us know how you get on. I might have to do it one day myself.

Annoyingly the software is windows only, so will have to use a virtual machine which I'm sure will be fun... Will post here with how it goes!
Found some! Amazon (the ones actually sold by amazon.co.uk) just delivered a pair with holes, I think I might've nabbed the last 42, but they definitely had 46 (sent one back for wrong size - it's marked 18cm wide 😕), and they had a couple of 44s when I checked. They do come up a bit narrow on the hoods though mind, it looks like they've got 1cm or so flare in the drops.
Cheers again for the recommendation @Dick, just acetone'd all the branding off and they look great!
