I think modular but done right still makes sense. If you can get all bits from Apple it makes a huge difference compared to todays offering. If you have the main boxes tiered like Well_is_it says upthread, adding an external GPU or 3 from apple makes sense if you need one. It's the dependency on 3rd party that's the main issue now.

They could come up with a new connector for thunderbolt plus enough power for a GTX 1080. Not sure if those are two things you'd want in the same cable... The main roadblock to elegance in a truly modular system is power requirements. The big ol' towers had 1000 watt PSUs that took up almost a quarter of the useable volume.

To my fellow soon to be unless we change our minds X owners, if you haven't heard about MediaDevil, I strongly recommend them for quality screen proectors and excellent CS. They give you sweet with every pruchase. I once asked for extra in the comment box during checkout and I got extra sweet with a cool message on the invoice.

Screen protectors, Yuck.
Engineers and Designers spend all that time trying to make the material transitions seamless and now even curved the screens around the edge.

Which TBF, did help prevent it from getting cracked.
You could argue the same about phone cases.

Oh I thought it was a given that I had stronger feelings about those things. Minging!

People use this shit at work to 'protect client data' but its mostly to hide the fact they are on asos.com -

It's my laptop, I'm well aware of what I'm hiding.

My tempered glasses (that's right, I have had more than 1) saved my phone a few times in the past year. The screen on the phone would probably have survived the drops, but I wouldn't want to be the one to find out otherwise.
And I have seen annoyed customers in the apple store when they were told how much it'd cost them to replace the screen. Have a look online to see how much it'd cost to replace the one on the X.

My 6+ is 3 years old and only protected by the official leather case (arguably part of the design). Never smashed the screen despite dropping it more than a few times.
In the same period, Mrs Hammer has smashed her screen 3-4 times and it’s had a protector and various cheap cases on it the whole time. -

On the subject of VPN's... forum approved one? I'd love it to be free but all the ones I have found are not so maybe its not "a thing"?

I use PIA and have never had issues, not free, but works and no impact on speed.
-
• #12071
Nordvpn is what I use. Not free but pretty good.
-
• #12072
I leave PIA on permanently.

I knew you would...
Cheers for the recommendations guys... I only really wanted to give one a Bach so I could try Nvidia's streaming app, which prob wont work...

If you use a free one, you're the product.

Ha, you are prob 100% right there. Why do you have yours on all the time? I just tried a free trial and that Nvidia app and it worked fine ish, connection was awful, but feel thats the actual network here rather than the VPN causing issues...
I know, it prob wont.... but...
Imagine if they had a clever way of hiding connections? And power could go via the connection so you'd only need one PSU/Power cable. Think a tower half way between the Mac mini and Mac Pro, with the GPU being the additional bit, maybe thats not quite right either, but im not sure they will go fully modular.
The problem with the current Mac Pro is the GPU's, Apple took a gamble of workflows favouring dual GPU's, GPU makes decided to go single big hot hungry GPU route (hence SLI being less of a thing). The thermal design of the current MP didn't allow for such GPUS...
