  • True. Haven't ridden it yet, so will offer up some views on the wheels Friday. My local shakedown loop is Mt Tibidabo in Barcelona, so a good mix of up and down.

As @PhilDAS says, planning to change bars to something with flatter tops (Zipp), probably a matching stem and have already changed the saddle.

I think I'll go tubeless too, just to try it out and maybe move to some 28s as there are a lot of gravel roads here.

  • Yay! 56?

  • Indeed! Same as yours it looks like? How are you settling in with it? It is a lovely thing.

Slight annoyance - mine got shipped with European orientation brakes (maybe because it was shipping to Spain, though it was through a friend at a UK bike shop??). Does anyone know how tricky it is to swap the hoses over? Is it a matter of just undoing the bolts at the lever end and swapping, or is there re-bleeding etc required? I am happy enough with MTB hydro, but haven't worked on road ones yet. @Howard maybe?

  • Mine's a 56cm too, the best size. I haven't ridden it tons yet but it fits really well and goes like a rocket. It's miles beyond anything I've had before.

Can't advise on the discs I'm afraid. They're so good though, discs are obviously the future.

Check the hoses are long enough before you try. The 'dale MTBs I've got were all hosed up that way, and the main problem was that the front brake hose was simply not long enough to just swap to the RHS. Meant new hoses that meant new fittings that meant rebleeding etc.

Yours might if you are lucky have those connectormajig things on them?

  • Ahh... good point thanks. I don't have the connectors on mine but I think it should be ok as I will be dropping the stem a fair bit.

If that is the case, is it a simple unscrew and swap, or am I going to get fluid everywhere?

No promises but if you use gravity to your advantage you might be OK. Maybe ask someone in the disc brake thread? I've not worked on those levers.

  • New wheels / fresh dirt

  • needs a clean.

  • But I just got it dirty!

  • I've bought some gold bar tape for my 2105 black inc, mistrake?

  • My 'puter is crap, Mavics or Reynolds?

  • Not if you're winning gold medals with it.

  • Not if you're winning Strava KOMs with it.

  • Just had the first ride of the CAAD12 this morning. Nice little sunrise ascent and descent of Mt Tibidabo (Barcelona).

Wow. What a bike. It’s light and feels it, lovely and stiff and reacts to any input like a proper race bike. I was riding a Pinnacle as a stop gap before this and that was the single attribute that I missed the most. Up the ascent it was definitely quicker than my old bike.

New Dura Ace is lovely. Instant shifts with a front mech that changes nearly as quickly as the rear. Great hood shape too, though I suspect not as much for smaller hands.

The single best thing about this bike though is the brakes. They bedded in after the steep top part of the hill and then they provided awesome, awesome braking. I found that I needed almost the whole descent to recalibrate myself. There are a couple of corners where a decent bit of brake is required and with these it was easy to overbrake and scrub off way too much speed. Yes, you probably don’t need disc brakes for a road bike, but they are fantastic to use and on some of the gravel roads around here they will be a godsend.

Bad parts: the tops of the bars are thin and I don’t like the fizik tape. Will be swapping to Zipp bars and Specialized Roubaix S-Works tape ASAP.

TL:DR: I already love this bike and need to swap the brakes round before I endo off a mountain.

    (please excuse the Insta shots)

  • This looks rapid btw.

  • Very jealous. Spent a day riding up and down that mountain on a rented MTB last year. Imagine the roads are blast on this.

Gahhhhh. I don't count myself as lucky, mine rattle like a bitch.
Need to get round to running new lines but waiting till the bar tape needs replacing.

  • Looking to pull the trigger on a Syanpse Carbon 105 disc. My LBS has the 2017 model for €528 off. Question is: Is it worth paying the extra for the 2018 model? It's lighter, room for 32mm tyres and has mudguard mounts. Slightly different geo so I'll ride both. But on paper what do you guys think?

  • Do you want the option of bigger tyres and possibly attaching mudguards easily?

  • 2018 if you can stretch. It has thru axles instead of QRs.

  • Yup, it's a no brainer isn't it? Just needed the justification to spend the extra money!

  • Admittedly an older dale but I just put drops back on and am impressed how comfy it is.
