Just had the first ride of the CAAD12 this morning. Nice little sunrise ascent and descent of Mt Tibidabo (Barcelona).
Wow. What a bike. It’s light and feels it, lovely and stiff and reacts to any input like a proper race bike. I was riding a Pinnacle as a stop gap before this and that was the single attribute that I missed the most. Up the ascent it was definitely quicker than my old bike.
New Dura Ace is lovely. Instant shifts with a front mech that changes nearly as quickly as the rear. Great hood shape too, though I suspect not as much for smaller hands.
The single best thing about this bike though is the brakes. They bedded in after the steep top part of the hill and then they provided awesome, awesome braking. I found that I needed almost the whole descent to recalibrate myself. There are a couple of corners where a decent bit of brake is required and with these it was easy to overbrake and scrub off way too much speed. Yes, you probably don’t need disc brakes for a road bike, but they are fantastic to use and on some of the gravel roads around here they will be a godsend.
Bad parts: the tops of the bars are thin and I don’t like the fizik tape. Will be swapping to Zipp bars and Specialized Roubaix S-Works tape ASAP.
TL:DR: I already love this bike and need to swap the brakes round before I endo off a mountain.
