  • But that recession was five years, Brexit is predicted to be ten. 30%?

  • Depends on if/when we succeed in getting back into the single market I suspect.

  • Who is forecasting a ten year recession? Sounds rough.

  • I measured and fitted them myself. It was waaaay cheaper and quite easy to fit - each frame is just a few screws, and the shutters fit straight in. If you're reasonable with a drill and caulk gun (ahem) you can probably do it.

You obviously really need to take your time measuring - for example on our (victorian) bay window, the 'side' windows were different widths, the height of each pane was different, and the bottom sill wasn't level (so the height of the window was different depending on which side of the pane you measured :) All out by only 5ish mm, but the differences matter...

  • You can find forecasts to back whatever you want at the moment tbh, we have no real idea of what's going to happen - all we can do is look at the character of those doing the negotiating, and where we've got to so far.

This thread is interesting with regards to how Brexit Britain will be affected by cutting ourselves off from the EU27: https://twitter.com/EmporersNewC/status/923607612846936065

  • I've been checking out the measuring and fitting videos on the diy shutters site and it looks pretty straight forward, I've just got single sash windows so should be reasonably simple for measuring. Where did you get yours from?

  • Interesting to try and probability-weight the various outcomes. I still continue to hope that there's maybe a 10% chance the whole endeavour will be cancelled. Absent that hopefully we agree to pay what we owe (€50-60bn) and get some kind of continuing trade relationship.

As we are all painfully aware, WTO for services does not work.

  • I'm 95% certain they came from the shutterstore - http://shutters.co.uk/

I can't find any documentation to be completely sure, but I remember Sarah Beeny somehow being involved and looking back at the ordering page, it looks very familiar.

  • Cheers, I've checked out the Sarah Beeny site I thought they looked good, definitely the best price. Glad to hear from someone who's done it, how long did it take for them to arrive after you placed the order?

  • Does anyone know how to find the construction / floorplan details of a property e.g. mine* ?
Is there a specific department or organisation that would hold and release these details ?

    • leasehold flat in a grade 2 listed building development.

I need to do some internal probing before minor construction work.

  • internal probing

  • With regards to house price falls, Brexit is only a small factor in the bigger picture. The markets been pumped up massively with cheap credit for 10 years. We're at the end of a 30 year deflation cycle. Rates are on the up (although i'll believe it when I see it, Carney has a lot to answer too). S24 is starting to cause ripples with the BTL Scum. Its just a matter of time, but I think things will be bad in some areas.

ps not sure why my only three posts are about a housing/market crash, I do like bikes too.

  • Your local council will hold some plans. Depending on when the conversion was done they might be online/in a filing cabinet/non-existent and they may not be very detailed. The more recent the conversion the better the docs will be.

What do you need to know and why?

  • your council planning portal?

  • I want to install some sound insulation on a section of the dividing wall (plasterboard) between me and next door but before I do this I'd like to know how the whole place was constructed e.g. whats behind all the plaster boarding when this 1912 brick place was converted into apartments (2003).
I'd like some floor plans of the the whole development to try and see layout and those sort of details. I did briefly get sight of of some sort of brochure plan that the people that reassessed the council tax band had (this was 2004) so they do exist but I don't know where.
Its been suggested that I try the council planning dept and the library - both hopeless as is the buildings management company.

  • I'm trying to contact them at the moment - permanently engaged - will keep trying but I don't have much hope in them.

  • Have you already stripped the walls or are you going to strip them to install the sound-proofing?

  • If by 'stripped' you mean removed the plasterboard then no I haven't - I want to know whats behind the plaster board first - sounds like behind some of it is next doors living room.
I might just resort to cutting out a discrete section of plaster board and have a look.
( when next door have gone out ).

  • Yeah, stripped the plasterboard so you can insert the damping. Presumably the neighbours also have their own wall of plasterboard or simliar? So you could use a stud finder to avoid electrics/studs/etc and then cut inspection hole.

  • You want to know if it's just a stud wall? If it sounds hollow when you tap it...

Drill a hole through it to be sure :)

  • I wasn't planning on stripping all the plaster board but use this stuff ... http://www.noisestopsystems.co.uk/wall-soundproofing/noisestop-acoustic-panel?zenid=0078c78c9ee86a249d55aca7374f2ff3

over the existing plaster board. I've got a stud finder but it gets confused. I'll cut an inspection hole though by using the stud finder and prayers but I'd rather have some original building details first.

  • Fatberg - Just to keep you in the loop it won't be a 'glory hole' :)

  • Yes - I know its a stud wall - tap tap hollow mostly but solid in other parts hence the need for a bit more original building detail.

  • That is a shit show, has to below to a footballer?

Never really get outdoor pools in the UK either!
