If by 'stripped' you mean removed the plasterboard then no I haven't - I want to know whats behind the plaster board first - sounds like behind some of it is next doors living room.
I might just resort to cutting out a discrete section of plaster board and have a look.

Yeah, stripped the plasterboard so you can insert the damping. Presumably the neighbours also have their own wall of plasterboard or simliar? So you could use a stud finder to avoid electrics/studs/etc and then cut inspection hole.
