It seems like the white / silver isn't that popular at all...
Let us know how you get on with the phone in the coming weeks.

• #12028
Will do... It is ridiculously expensive, but I put it through the business so can net off VAT and corp tax at least, makes me feel slightly better about it at least.

256 space gray here too, delivery on 3rd Nov. Now I just got to make my mind up.
-
• #12031
3rd of Nov to 2-3 weeks due shipping address missing on my account.
I don't mind the wait as it's to flip, if it were me id be a bit upset. It's irrational but I don't like buying a spot on a queue. -

Really curious to see how much it'll go for. I could only find a few ads so far, but I'm sure there'll be plenty in a few days

Going back a page, I'm getting fed up with people consistently banging on about the new MBP. So many of the opinions being banded about are based on such specialised needs or edge cases it drives me mad.
I have the 15" base and, touch bar not being something I use much aside, the lightness and speed and screen are excellent, and I personally like the keyboard. As for being on the dongle bus ... I like having one cable entering my machine, either into a 5K monitor (at home), or into the HDMI + USB A + USB C dongle at the office.
As a "pro" who has to carry it into work everyday and around a building, often using without a monitor, it's about the best a laptop could be considering the constraints placed on it.

That being said, I've also moved to taking an iPad Pro into more meetings and user interviews and am loving it, especially with Linea and a pencil and iOS 11.

Cutting magsafe is borderline unforgivable. It was such an elegant solution to a very real problem and now it's gone because all of a sudden, Apple has decided they actually like standards?
All the other stuff, I pretty much agree with you. It's got most people pretty well covered.
"Pros" are just a particularly vocal minority when it comes to ports being removed that maybe 1% of users actually use. -
• #12038
Yeah, no excuse for dropping magna safe, if they were smart they could have built it into the USB-C connector that comes with the charger, just lazy not doing so.
But yeah, as @beseku said, they are mint. I'm almost tempted to buy Jono's just because its such a good price and pass my one on to the misses...

I'll give you the MagSafe, to a point. Right now though, I have one cable going into a monitor for power, display at stupid res and 3 USB ports, into which I plan to plug in an external GPU. One cable.

Same. My non 2017 office set up looks like I have dropped a pack of spaghetti on my desk.
eGPU you say?

Yeah, but I'm waiting as I reckon Apple will be dropping some as part of a modular Mac mini/Pro thingy. Just a hunch.

Got a 256Gb Space Grey being delivered next Friday too. Wanted to go through IUP but couldn't make it work so i'm just going to buy it.
-
• #12043
Thats my hunch too... I'll prob buy whatever they put out as it'll be smaller and prettier than the Breakaway box I am currently running.
I assume you've seen the small print that says "eGPU support coming Spring 2018".

They've recently said something about the Mac Mini still having a future as well as the next Mac Pro coming at some point... I bet they semi-merge the lines.
The Mac Pro will be a combination of a i9 Mini with eGPU or if you just need a Mini, you can get that section with anything from an i3 to an i9 and whatever storage/memory config that fits the budget.i3, 8GB RAM, 256m.2 from £499
i5 from £699
i7 from £999
i9 (or Xeon?) from £1600?eGPU "Pro Module" with two options each for Nvidia and AMD, consumer and workstation options, standard form factor, user upgradeable.
Plus two m.2 slots. -

OH GAWD PLEASE.
5/7 would bang.
(I was thinking the same but didn't dare say it as that would be too good to be true).

I miss MagSafe too; it was great; however, the future just has to be USB- C and ThunderBolt 3 for all laptops. I really hope within the next 4 years I can basically leave the charger behind and plug my laptop into anyone's cable. Much like I can rely on at least someone in my proximity typically having a lightning cable on them.
Maybe Apple can give us a little USBC to Mag-Safe dongle in the future?

Power will be wireless before you know it.

This.

It won't happen. The trashcan Pro was kind-of that... a compact compute box with no user upgradeable parts built for an age of expansion boxes and multi GPUs that never came.
Imagine all the cables if they did this with the mini... Power supplies for each tier plus thunderbolt. If you had three pieces, it would get ridiculous.
Realistically, they need to just bring back a revised, standard tower. Loads of SATA and m.2 slots, as many Xeons as they can cram in, tons of RAM and lots of space for full-length cards.
They can still cover the thing in thunderbolt ports if they think that's what people want.
I almost think they redesigned the Mac Pro to take up less shipping space... The boxes for the cheesegraters were about the size of a fridge.
If they based a new tower on 2.5" drives instead of 3.5, then they could make the thing quite small and light yet still have plenty of space for PCI-E and airflow.Maybe the Mini will get Covfefe Lake and a price increase.
Space Grey, 256GB, will be in a robust case, so wasn't really worried by colour.
Have to work out which case I can buy that gives lots of protection but doesn't block the QI charging.
