@vp1337 It just says "Cro-Mo". Mine is a 1994 BV SE -in 1994, this model and down used the basic CroMo Rockstar fork, the higher models used either the 750g Lite or 690g UltraLite forks. Yours looks like a 1992 with the small Bear Valley SE decal on the top tube, in which case it would have come with the 750g fork. Mine had big letters right along the top tube - see photo below of when I first got it, it was original with full Shimano STX Special Edition group (only made in 1994). I've also attached a 1992 BV SE catalogue shot.

Started getting the Dawes ready for winter. Mudguards etc.

Will be making a trip to Stayer next week for mid-fork rack mounts.

Not sure if I'm going to keep the front and back dick wheels.

I can hardly believe that. When I bought my Scott Windriver (back in 1991 - equipped with 7 speed DX), Marin was in the running too but as far as I remember Bear Valley was lower-mid range (exage stuff). Maybe in 1992 they had some upgrade, I don't know.

Sorry, my bad, I mean it came with some DX parts haha. Brake/shift levers were DX. Other stuff were mainly 500GS.

Worth trying a different set of pedals first if you've got some spare. Mine were creaking for ages and I always thought it was my BB/cranks until I switched pedals

There are two: medium and large. Even the large won't be wider than your bars:

Width 330 mm

I have the large one, which is also great for touring and no wider than a wald 137.

I literally just changed the pedals so definitely not that! Any other possibilities before I buy a new bb?

Chainring bolts can cause creakyness

wald on an sjs rack, cheap, clean and more useful than a plain rack.

grease it up! dunno what your setup is, but whenever I hear something like that I go all out with the grease gun.

Stiff link in the chain.

Had a clicking sound/feeling in the same area. Bought a new gxp bb and the clicking remained. Replaced the chain and it went away.
