  • Thanks for that. I had searched for LFGSS on strava but nothing came up. Who knows, maybe I spelled it wrong. It's been that sort of a day.

    The LFGSS group is enormous.

Would people be interested in joining up to a separate running club, if I make one? It'd be slightly odd perhaps, unless you count your legs as being a single speed of sorts.

    Yup.

    Lfgss run vests? Listthat'llnevercometoowt?

  • I thought we already had a forum running vest...

  • How could I forget?!

Label suggests you're yet to wear yours in anger?

  • Yes. Go for it.

  • Sadly it’s not mine... it’s from upthread. Iirc they didn’t have any in my size :-(.

  • I have a 210 that says it's charging when it's not. I usually charge it on my laptop so I can see if it's actually connected, it sometimes needs fiddling about with a bit. It's been like this for about 2 years now!

  • This vest!! Mine is in storage at the moment, or at least I hope it is.

  • List for new vests then... are there any designers on the forum? ;)

    Thoughts?
I reckon he's bang on the money, even if I do enjoy using my Garmin watch.

  • Interesting reading!

  • Good shout - will do that. Hopefully I've got some time left.

  • I'm happy for him and his purism but this is runners' elitist nonsense. I want to be part of something that welcomes people of all abilities and strengths. Sure enough the big companies are exploiting the market but I'm more than happy to run alongside anyone willing to move their body for any given amount of time.

  • I think he's entitled to that though, being an ex-world record holder. I feel like he's making a comment about the distilled essence of what running means to him, and how that is different to what a lot of people consider running, ie "anyone willing to move their body for any given amount of time".

In the same way people who race bikes, may not actually share that much in common with people who ride to the shops.

  • I think that in all sports, if recreational participants weren't there, the entire sport would disappear pretty quickly. Elites alone won't sustain something.

  • I’m sorry, being really good at something doesn’t afford you a monopoly over it. I’ll give reverence where it’s due but not if it means exclusion of others. To allow the sport to continue to grow it needs to be inclusive otherwise it becomes golf. Cycling is never a standard to aspire to either, as much as I live it.

  • Or am I getting this wrong? Is this like when Andy Ellis proclaims he isn’t a cyclist? 🤷🏿‍♂️

  • I don't think it's calling for a monopoly*, but it's just an observation that it's not a homogeneous group - something I find frustrating. Personally I've found that making distinctions between what people get out of something leads to a more meaningful dialogue. On the flip side I don't think there's a right and wrong - and I'm certainly not going to tell anyone what to do - but participation medals, t-shirts and being a "finisher" isn't my bag.

    *actually he kind of is.

  • I've been lurking here for a while but have joined.

I'm definitely having an rest week / month, world record times and distances incoming.

  • Also joined the Strava club. Aiming to drag myself Ladywell track one night for one of the Kent AC sessions. Are they easy enough to join if I've never done any sort of structured training?

  • Yes, they are really easy to join. There are different groups depending on your ability, A group is for sub 32 10k runners, B group for 33-40 minute 10k runners, C group for 40+ minute 10k runners. Every group has a structured session based on the ability of the people within the group. Come along, it's really friendly yet competitive and will help you improve.

  • I'm in there, cheers.
