WHat is the deal with most mopeds being ridden with L plates on? Very rare to see one without.

You don't get many mopeds on L plates in segregated cycle lanes, going the wrong way down streets, jumping lights, etc though whereas they're all pretty common with e-bikes in NY. When I was cycling there it was perfectly normal for them to be heading at you in the wrong direction on a cycle path.

NYC mayor moves to ban e-bikes because they're dangerous, despite not actually killing anyone.
I suppose this is a bit like London banning mopeds on L plates; they might be an annoyance but they provide an easy way for people to start making cash and probably account for most takeaways earnings.
