  • Any tips on combatting them?

    See a physio.

Fwiw I found strengthening my toes helped.

  • The furthest ive run in recent months is about 800 meters but this weekend I decided to see how far I could get .... I ran 18kms , felt good at the time however this morning my Achilles is very tender I assume its the sudden bump in distance that's done it, any tips on how to A. sort it out so I can keep training and B. stop it happening again.

    Cheers. George

  • After a few weeks off with tendonitis in my ankles, some physio visits and some new shoes, recent runs have been going well (apart from the sluggishness due to time off!). Managing to average 7.20 minute/miles over 5 miles. Keen to speed it up a bit and hopefully bag a 40 min 10km in the coming months, hopefully hitting the fells with some fitness when the season starts again.

You really get used to running regularly and it's a big shock when you have to stop!

  • A. sort it out so I can keep training and B. stop it happening again.

See a Physio (& RICE or whatever current acronym is until then)

  • Never run more than 10% what you ran the week before, never.

  • What do people do for lights/reflectivity at night?

Started running a little but with no street lights rather away of visibility on the road.

  • Alpkit Gamma has rear light. Also their 'blip' lights are good.

I unstitched the reflective stuff off a high vis & sewed it onto my windvest, also stitched some with elastic to wear as reflective armbands for an event that had reflective kit requirements, so diy is an option.

  • Decathlon's clip on lights are great for this. Rechargeable too.

  • The 235. Read lots of reviews, seemed like the best option. And I'm selling two bikes soon, so it seemed justifiable. I feel like being able to see my pace on Saturday made me run a bit faster.

  • Is there something like an LFGSS runners group on Strava?

  • I bought a 735xt because someone offered one at a good price, but the 235 was the one my research pointed me at.

And couldn’t agree more that they help you go faster!

  • Cheap rear bike light that I clip onto the waistband of my shorts if I'm going to be runnning on the road, head torch for lighting the way (just a not-top-of-the-range, few years old Petzl) does the trick for me.

  • there is a “Lfgss tri” but I don’t know of a “Lfgss run” club

  • just join the regular lfgss group loads of us who are members run as well

  • I think it only shows cycling activities in the group; you can't see running activities for other group members and the leaderboard only shows rides.

maybe you should set it up @dubkev

  • There's defo a Tri group but it's a bit sparse these days. Have never looked for a run group tbh so there might be one already too.

Edit: ^ what they all said.

  • I couldn't find an LFGSS group on Strava... is it a Club?

I could start a runners one, if I work out how to do it.

Brain is in first gear today after going to Fabric on Sunday night, apologies. Not sure I'm quite physically ready to run this evening.

  • Fabric on Sunday night! A man of your age, Kev? I'm shocked (And super jealous)

  • Great watch, it’s what I have. Really good that you can upload your plan for a whole 2 months then not have to worry about it.

  • My Garmin Forerunner 10 says it's charging but as soon as I take it off charge it says it has a low battery. I've searched online but no joy - is this a sign that the watch is dead/dying?

Edit: if it is dying, what are people's opinions on the 230? I've read negative reviews of the heart rate sensor on the 235...

  • I know, I know... I really shouldn't. Old habits die hard though..

Admittedly there were few other 40 year olds in there.

  • I think a lot of people don't put the watch on tightly and get dodgy results from the HRM as a result. Needs to be snug on the wrist and above the bone on your wrist. Feels a bit odd at first but you get used to it.
Mine seem pretty reliable and in line with what I'd expect.

  • I find the sensor adequate for my needs. I wouldn't use it as part of a medical examination but gauges the effort ranges pretty well. I'd say it has a slight delay when you make a sudden change but settles soon after.

  • Nice, that's good to hear. I read the sensors often improve with updated software - so the reviews can be a bit negative.
