Thanks for the info mate, I keep getting more and more positive feedback on these tyres so I'm confident buying them :)

I run 2.0 big apples on my city bomber as well, they're bulletproof and roll decently. Stoked to see how this is coming together!

Cheers, thanks for the heads up!

Just ordered a set of celeste bar tapes off AliExpress, and I'm ordering the tyres tomorrow.
The BB needs to be fitted, and the headset needs to be regreased. Then it's assembly time! -

Are we close?

Getting there.
Ordered a set of Big Apples, but could only get 26x2.0 ones for a reasonable price, so it won't really be a balloonbike. Should arrive next week-ish.
Also bought a used chain tensioner and a handlebar. Currently waiting for my lbs to finish with the BB & headset, I think it will be done by tomorrow. Then I'll install the brakes. -

Did you decide to keep the bars you had?

ISO 400 + flash + shaky hands + old camera + dark ass room = horrible pictures, sorry about that

Bikes without tyres look weird, looking forward to seeing it fully built up.

Tyres should arrive tomorrow. I've installed some new brake pads and set up the brakes correctly today.
I'm getting pretty damn hyped.

Ha! The bars do look like antlers but more of an ibex than an antilope imo.

So the LBS called, the tyres arrived. In 16x2.0 size ahahahaha. Turns out they misread it on the site they've ordered it from, and there's no 26x2.0 at all. There's 26x2.3 but I'm like 99% sure it won't clear.
I've told them to order me a pair of 26x2.15 Maxxis DTH's if they can. If there's none, I'll just put on a pair of cheap Kenda/CST offroads, we'll see. -

After a few days of thinking about this tyre stuff I decided to go with a pair of random Kenda XC tyres in 26x2.10 as they are avaliable at my LBS, plus they were dirt cheap compared to every other choices of mine. And heck knows I might go offroad sometime.
I'll hopefully put it together tomorrow. -

It lives!
The chain tensioner I've bought is literal wank, so the Altus C50 RD is temporarily doing the job (it works really well though). The celeste bar tape hasn't arrived yet so this one's temporal as well.Todo:
- get another BB that has a longer axle
- get a longer seatpost
- install another saddle
- sort out pedals

Looks nice! You could probably shorten the chain quite a bit.

You need to buy my Nitto RM014 dirt drop bars
-

As I'm located in Hungary the shipping cost would be quite a killer mate :(
Plus I really don't want to spend more on this for a while. -
• #49
Ok. Makes sense. I should just get a vintage mtb for my bars then

Do it! They are so damn good and so simple yet fun to build. :)
No probs mate. I run big apples on my giant 2.0 though. Good tyres, they roll quite well and not had any punctures yet!
