C-Record/Chorus compatiblity and tech advancements

Posted on
  • Hi guys,

I'm attempting my first build and want to go for a C-record/chorus aera look with monoplanar breaks and friction shifters.

So what do I have to look out for when sourcing components ? Which groups are compatible with 7/8/9 speed casettes? Can a group with ergo shifters be converted to work with friction shifters? Which axle length do I need for a 7x2 or 8x2 setup and can I use a new bb for this if I exchange the axle?

I have been searching the web and found some articles, but if there is something like a compatiblity chart, that would be awsome. So and tipps, hints and links to good web resources are appreciated :)

  • The 7x2 will use a freewheel with 126 spacing and friction/synchro shifters. The 8+ will use a cassette and ergo.

  • Bb will be 111mm for both.

  • Research Velobase & Sheldon Brown!! all bikes are standardised, watch out for Italian, French & English threading.

    8 speed + is 130mm rear spacing.
5-7 speed is 128mm rear spacing.
