• Bit hard to read. Guy stated 50152, but this is hard to read. Will check when it arrived.
There might be a number after the 2, like a 6?

  • I'm working with ClassicLightweights to update their section on Rory O'Brien bikes. I bought a frame in a fit of nostalgia and found there wan't much info out there so figured I'd see what I could add. My biggest challenge is figuring out if there is any logic to his frame numbers. If anyone on this board has a Rory and would be willing to PM me with the frame number and approx age of the bike I would appreciate it. Thx.

  • Has it arrived?

  • It's out for delivery. Guy sent two packages, hopefully they both arrive at the same time.

  • Unfortunately courier didn't pick up frame package, said it'll arrive tomorrow. He delivered this though :

All this + Gillot frame for £190 delivered, it's been a pretty darn good deal!

  • Treasure trove!

  • It just arrived!

was thinking of chroming rear triangle and lower part of forks / lugs.

  • need to create a CP thread

  • Just so you know, it's Gillott's own stem.

  • @7ven Is that ride still on for tomorrow?
I am a bit stuck at the moment - moving to Germany on Wednesday :( and my wife's birthday tomorrow...

I could probably spare an hour (hour and a half tops) or so and meet you for the last bit towards Cambridge, or in Cambridge.
Could I get a phone number just in case, or send me a text as soon as you know you are an hour from the finish point... I can be reached on 07858594880

It will be windy by the way. I'll probably be riding this, lol

    Cheers, Rogier

  • I have three A.S. Gillott's all with Spearpoint lugs, none of them have original paint work, 2 Track/Path and one road with 27.1/4 wheels all built up and specked with period components as much as possible and all ready to ride.
However this is not enough, i need an A.S. Gillott Fleur De Lis in my life. This elusive Gillott will have tight clearances and a shortish wheel base, 23" seat tube, original paint work and ideally pre 1950.
Thats a big ask but my latest frame purchase fits most of the above criteria.
Its a Fleur De Lis 22" with paint work from the 1970's.
It arrived yesterday and the first impressions on opening the packaging were good, you got that whiff off "old garage, oily mechanical smell"]. I love that.!

  • Any photos?

  • I didn't want a long rangy tourer but a frame built for proper road racing.
Frame number 491178 stamped on both rear dropouts and the starer.

The seat lug is in good nick, no damage from over size seat posts by the looks of it.

    Beautiful fork crown

  • That is a lovely frame! The lugs are beautiful. It looks good in black and gold too.

    Will you repaint it?

  • Note the sleeved brake bridge. I happen to have a long reynolds seat post to compensate for the smaller frame.

  • Not sure yet @RgrahamH and thanks
The paintwork is in good Nick albeit not the most delicate, it's as if it's been wrapped in plastic.

  • That is a very lustworthy frame indeed. Very high quality. Now you have the "fun" of trying to find all the right components to do it justice!

  • Very very nice!!

Wouldn't repaint it, albeit not the most lovely colors out there.

  • No your probably right @anidel, have you taken your gillott out for a spin yet?

  • Am I the only one that can't see the pics? It's like the emperor's new clothes :) Hope all is well with you. Sounds good from your description
Needs to be built up quick so we can go on some sort of mid winter reliability trial!

  • Ahh, the pictures were there earlier in the week! Not sure what has happened.

  • glad you mentioned this. I can't see the pics either and thought I was going crazy...

  • I have a Rory stickered Vitus 979, probs 1986, but I guess that will just have the Vitus number stamped. Happy to send it across if you want.

  • no, have not done anything yet with that
