  • Small PSA - the shop in the Tatemodern is selling off some limited edition Carradice bags. I just picked up a barley in black with honey leather bits (made by Keely) for just 40 quid. Looked like they had 3 or 4 left. They also had some small, mountable pouches and some "musettes" (more like a cross between a tote and a backpack).

  • Have been using my new SQR slim for a bit now, then discovered this thread. Sue made it.

    3 x Kelly
    3 x Margareta

Its absolutely excellent, fits loads in and is a suitable shape for getting shoes, and an uncreased shirt as well as the other essentials.

  • ^^still lots of these left at Tate Modern (Barleys £40, musettes £? and pouches £25). Realised I need something bigger.

  • Bargains.

  • Pair of second-hand Super C panniers arrived today; no name label in there, alas. No idea how old they are - they're in good nick, but the only photo I can find of a similar pair is dated 1989. Not sure when they switched to the current design; as far as I can tell these are somewhere in between the current front and rear panniers, size-wise. Should help impose some packing discipline on tour!

  • They look tough! Would match my tourer perfectly... must put an eBay search out

  • Can't go wrong - yes, they look 90's ish to me. have always used Super C's but trying a pair of Altura Orkneys at the mo' - for a change like.

  • A pair have just popped up on the bay, but the seller is having a laugh; even with their not inconsiderable vintage cool I'm not sure I'd pay as much as for a new pair...

  • £100?! having a giraffe indeed

  • Mine's made by Sharon.
Although I guess that makes it rare, I think I would rather have one made by the legendary and prolific "Sue".

Just picked up two of the last three £40 Barleys from the Tate Modern shop. Kelly and Emma's fine handiwork.

Thought it was mean to take all 3, so hurry there's now only one left!

  • Semi-ridiculous, semi-serious question: would the extra 300something g. of weight represented by a Bagman support be even slightly offset by the air resistance benefits of not having a flappy saddlebag hung beneath your saddle?

  • not having a flappy saddlebag hung beneath your saddle?

But having one sat on a tiny rack instead?

  • At least that way it's behind my lardy frame. More aeros?

Or is it just that it keeps the thing still when you're honking up a hill? Help me out Bagman-owning guise

  • Dunno, I've got a super C Audax. Its in the same place as a saddle bag would be, ie just under and behind my saddle. Its also wider than a saddlebag so if anything its definitely worse for aeros and weight. But it doesnt swing and you can open it however often you like. Saddlebags reply on being stuffed full to stay still and you can't get in and out of them all the time.

  • Could you do me a favour? Fill your super c audax to capacity, and measure it, more the width than anything else, considering one as a bar bag if I have enough room.

  • It's 300g, that's less than a can of pop...

  • ^ this. Offset it by having a big shit before you ride.

  • 'Offsetting the Bagman', excellent new euphemism

  • I foolishly sold my carradice ages ago and realised it be practical.

Anyone have one for sales maybe. £20-25 please? Preferably old!

  • Preferably old!

    Oh Ed, you hipster.
