Buummerrrr.. I've run into the same problem on two of the mrs. bikes. Ended up working with mini v's and no spacers between the pad and brake. Filed the pad for alignment..
but the point is.. while hunting for a solution to the problem, i found out that there's apparently some old canti lever brake that is particularly good at solving this issue. Just can't remember the make/model. good luck

looks great! how you flattened those rack stud ends?

The canti that might solve this is the shimano cx-50, you can just remove the large spacer, but I'm not sure if it'll allow for wide rims as well

I have a fly press at work, but this can be done in a wise. I'll do you a sketch tonight to explain.

Thank you. Good shout.
I will build up the bike tonight and tomorrow morning I'll take it for a spin with only the rear brake mounted. If it rides well I'll redo the fork studs. -
• #57
Yeah it sucks, but classic me.

• #58
Arrgh! There's always something. Always.

This is such a PITA. Ran into this problem on the Mrs' Dawes

It is pretty stupid. Luckily I have loads of new studs and forks were cheap.

shimano cx-50
Probably user error, but I didn't get these brakes to work well.

This hits the nail on the head. Exactly what I'm after too.

They worked well on my gf's bike but they need different pads to those they are supplied with

Good tip, will try!

well i checked my old touring frame and it looks the same situation 55mm studs, had a bit of work, but those cx-50 work well, just need to put middle size spacers and shave spacers with angle, cause if you will remove spacer ot put like in stock, the brake pad didn't have possibility to be angled for the rim correctly
rims are mavic A319
btw their original pads are terrible, but with ultegra ones all good -

These blocks that hold the studs look weirdly inwards, couldn't you just chop them and fabricate (or buy) new ones that sit in the middle of the leg?
-
• #67
Yeah I have a couple of different varieties I can play with on Monday when I am back at work.

Almost John.
Just some brake cables away from being ridable.
As I am having to move studs on forks I might as well add bottle cage mounts to the frame and get it all painted.
Thinking: Black (matte), Ochre yellow (glossy or matte) or Ocean Blue (gloss) -

Ochre!

This one is sexy and what I mean by Ocean Blue. Not sure if it is correct or not.

Ochre yellow as imagine it. I can't decide if matte is worth it as glossy would be easier to clean.

And matte black

Ocean blue is a winner for me.

If somebody has some silver 175mm 110bcd square taper or octalink cranks I am very interested.

Yeah, that BJ really does it for me as well. But I have seen Hunter frames I matte ochre yellow as well that turns me on.
After making the rack and everything I realise that the canti studs are not normal. They are only 56mm apart where there rear studs are 76mm apart. Basically it is not possible to run canti and wide rims on these forks.
So either I have to get new forks or move the studs outwards, but I am not sure how wide is possible without getting in trouble...
