More seriously - its not the grams, its the aesthetics of putting ugly pattern parts on to finish an expensive bike build - hence my facetious reference to feng shui

You are absolutely right in terms of choice and can't argue with your thinking on the front derailleur part.
And here is the real issue. Aerozine doesn't make a 28.6mm collar clamp, neither does Tune or Schmolke or Carbozine and Google doesn't seems to be helping me find anything similarly weenie.
So I am stuck with Thomson or some hideous pattern part which will fuck with the feng shui of my bike
