So it turns out google kept one surprise about the new Pixel 2 phones secret until now. They’ve rolled their own image signal processor made up of 8 cores that will speed up all the fancy hdr stuff they do dramatically and use less power.
The new chip isn’t even active yet but will be enabled in a forthcoming update (8.1).
This is much bigger news than it’s being given credit for.
