Also in Amsterdam this weekend (should have applied for forum discount). Managed to shuffle my way around the Half marathon in the heat too, whilst staying incognito riding this Bakfiets cargo bike! You forgot to mention the moped riders aren't wearing helmets either >>>helmets thread>>>

I was at the cheerzone with the dancing lion mascot and the pink duracell bunnies (on your left as you came past). I may have seen you shuffle through.

Amsterdam is very busy, busy cities seem to bring out the worst in people ... Belfast is already a chaotic mess of confusion and it's only 330.000 people ... mix it with tourist on rental bikes, taxis and trams and it's a recipe for my kind of hell :)
The smallish city where my parents live is dead on for cycling. But everyone is way more chilled out.

Must be the fault of all those Dutch people bringing their chaotic Amsterdam habits with them. :)

So all I have read about the Netherlands being a cyclists' paradise is not entirely true? It backs up my suspicion that much cycle infrastructure is built for cars rather than cyclists (i.e. get them off my roads).
-

Given the Dutch had horrific traffic problems 40 years ago and decided to fix it by making walking and cycling the priority, I think that suspicion has no basis in fact.

Hahah ^_^
Well, I have not yet properly integrated as I indicate, don't park on the double yellows blocking THE FECKING ROAD (that really drives me nuts here), don't jump red lights and have lights on my bicycle, so it must most definitely be me ;)
I just need to bring tailgating, cycling while being on the phone and near running over peds on the cycle lane...that's the Dutch way in big cities :P

It's not quite so simple, Andy (but much too long a story to tell in full now).

Nasty. Was this in London?

I've cycled loads in Amsterdam and it's brilliant, I never had any problems that weren't my own fault. I was nervous at first cos everyone looked so confident and were doing casual wrist-flick indicating but once you get used to it it's fantastic, you're kind of swept along with the throng.

Bend/beat the racks until your bike fits, obvs.

Belfast.
I rang the PSNI and nobody phoned in either incident... I found the PSNI very helpful when I nearly got hit by a UPS van.
Well, all I can do. Luckily nobody got hit in the morning, the afternoon the man seemed OK and his bike too. So maybe that's why it wasn't dialled. PSNI thanked me for calling and have my details.

Do you live in Belfast?

Looked like an incident at the "traffic-free" bank junction this morning. Didn't see what had happened but ambulance present and police were redirecting a bus somewhere.

Second time I fell for it 😂

Fuuuuck. Chain jumped into the wheel, broke two spokes, wheel now out of true so suspect terminal. Cue gingerly returning 10 miles to get the car. Oh, and it was raining. V. late for work. No coffee until nearly half past nine.
However, passing cyclist stopped immediately to offer help.

saw this as well, according to twitter two cyclists hit each other when a ped stepped out without looking.

Whats the wheel? Had the same thing but new spoke in and back to tension and it went perfectly back straight.
That would be right, it was a gentle curve and his lane joined mine. So what he saw was a stupid tourist just sail across his bows without a care. Oh dear.
