  • is that the replacement for the Sumatra?

i am in the middle of two weeks in London, my wife keeps telling me about how delicious the Sumatran coffee is at home. when she does this i am not sure if i miss her or my morning coffee more

  • The Sumatra is being replaced by another natural process coffee, this one is an Ethiopia from Yirgacheffe, the lot is called Shalaitu. It’s full of strawberries and apricots, I reckon you’ll enjoy it.

  • Coffee in Bali was great - bought 2kg of various different beans, all roasted on the island. Gutted to be back from hols but got plenty of coffee to remind me of that place

  • I had a natural Ethiopian from Chelektu recently and it was fantastic but it was a small lot so I can’t buy any more. Is this one available now?

  • Yes, just got the roast profile right, I’m waiting for the Sumatra to come to an end but I do have some roasted if you’d like some.

  • Anyone in here using a Hario V60 dripper?

  • Yep I've got one.

  • @umop3pisdn @Drakien you guys having any problems getting consistent filter papers? I've been buying them off ebay and was getting them embossed with 'v60' and with a little tab, last batch are plain and no tab. Google seems to suggest that there are inconsistencies in genuine filters but also that there are lots of fakes going about.

  • I can't help you there, I bought bog-standard filters which are a slightly different size to the V60 cone, and I don't mind. Once the water's in there it deforms to the right shape anyway.

  • Where are you based? Most decent coffee shops in London stock them.

Alternatively you can buy from Hario either direct or through Amazon.

  • Yes you can get 'fakes'

They're just non-hario ones I can't say as I've noticed a major difference in how the stack up. But coffee shops will usually stock the og Hario ones

  • @Drakien yeah, it's six and half once the water is in.

@mmccarthy Glasgow. I think John Lewis or something might do genuine Hario filters but I imagine the price will be 3-4x what I'm getting them online for.

@Tenderloin I think this pack I've bought fall into that 'non-Hario' category, which would be fine, if that was how they were sold. The ebay listing is very misleading though and having contacted the seller they are protesting that they are genuine which is just pissing me off.

  • Whittards to v60 filters. £5 for decent size pack. No need to go online.

  • Ooh, ta. There's a Whittards on Buchanan st.

That's actually cheaper than ebay too.

They look like the ones I got this time, no embossing, no tab.

"Designed specifically for use with V60 drippers." makes it sound like they are a 3rd party item (which, as above I'm fine with), wonder how they're packaged though.

  • That's just confuse me more, I was used to the packing being shrink wrap, like their photo of the white ones, this last batch (also white) were packed looser like they show the brown ones packed.

The different packaging was one of the things that made me suspicious.

It does still look like the brown have a tab, I think I can see it through the pink bit of the bag.

  • I've had both shrink wrapped and (more recently) loose packaged/boxed Hario v60 filters. Both were genuine (from friends who run cafes); maybe they have changed the way they package them?

  • The ones I've got have always been hario genuine article. Don't imagine they'd go to a cheaper brand as they are a hario supplier (you can buy all the glitzy versions of a dripper and accessories there)

  • The website is now ready, its not fully live to the whole world yet and I was hoping that if anybody here wanted any coffee then you might help me to beta test it in case there's any bugs. The bad news is all the 250g packs have gone up £1 to cover the costs of the website, but I've put in a discount code for 20% off packs of coffee. This doesn't apply to subscriptions yet, but bear with me. Hopefully this will cover my apologies in advance if we run in to any issues, although things look good so far.

To get access type 'nitrobrew' as the password on the landing page, then use discount code 'doaskid' for 20% discount.

    Cheers
    Steve

  • About Us no worky from home page.

Angel St no worky from home page.

    Masterclass thing too.

But they do work from the top menu (just not the panel on the right hand side of page opposite the subscription panel).

    Subscription page looks great.

Various funky line breaks on the text descriptions of the coffees.

On the shop page it'd be great to have options beyond 3 bags. I.e. by the kilo or something?

  • Cheers, just ordered some Kenyan to try :)

  • Really looking forward to the Nicaraguan for some reason but also have a pack of Wahana and the new Ethiopian on the way.

    Nice job Steve!

PS - do you have a preference financially for card vs paypal etc? Did PP for convenience but happy to use card if better rates etc.

PPS - Noticed the PayPal address I paid to is different from the one I was using directly through you. Presume that's ok?

  • Have you thought of offering a lower impact packaging?

I'd be happy to get my coffee in just the seal bags with a sticker on. But perhaps you've avoided this to limit possible damage.

I did appreciate the used shoe box. :)

  • Awesome, thatll be in the post tomorrow, cheers!
