    Yeah the kit is a bit pointless. The little squishy bottles are great, can be re-filled too. Carry one in my pack when out on the MTB - has got me out of trouble at least once or twice.

  • I recall that the Stans syringe is not compatible with their 'race' sealant - according to the notice on the packaging - which I take to mean that it hasn't been designed for the newer type of sealant that used for road tyres (i.e. that fills smaller holes and/or works at higher pressures).

    No sealant has been used yet and front held pressure overnight rear seems to lose pressure after a few hours - is this normal or does it sound like i should re-tape the rear?

  • Yeah, nor on the Chain Reaction listing. It was only after it had arrived that I saw the warning on the side of the box so sent it back.

  • I've already used mine though. I guess I can tell them it simply didn't work.
    It was 11 fucking quid for a shitty syringe. I should've just used the one I had for priming coffee machine pumps.

    Been fine so far though apparently I used loads too much sealant (60ml per wheel)

    Nah the race sealant is designed to plug larger holes but the stuff dries quicker / gums up easier. My understanding of it is that it's the normal sealant + larger more particles, so it coagulates quicker, both sealing a hole, and inside your tire when its sitting around doing nothing.

    It probably will still work with a syringe but not a valve core, you'd need to remove it and push it through the stem (you should be doing this anyway)

  • I had no syringe. We (had a little help) just poured sealant into tyre before putting the last bit of bead over the rim. Am I kerazy?

    Nah just has a higher chance of mess / spillage but makes no practical difference to the set up.

    First time I’ve done tubeless and it took me about 5 minutes.

    30ml in each

    What do I do now? Is there a better way to leave the wheels standing; vertical/horizontal?

    Am I gonna wake up in the morning to them having exploded everywhere?!

  • Horizontal is best. Using them is even better.

  • Is 30 ml enough for such big rubber? Also, go for a ride, if not possible, bounce and spin the things to make the sealant plug any remaining leak

    As I said, it gives a good point of reference from which to start from, which seems to correspond well with my experience with 33mm tyres and rims with a 19mm internal width. There tends to be a fair amount of uncontrollable variables in cross, the formula might get a bit complicated if you took everything into account.

  • Just go for a ride on them. It helps the sealent into all those nooks and crannies.

    Gave them a gooood bouncy bouncy spinny spinny throw about the house this morning after another 30ml of sealant and I’m hoping they’ll still be at 30psi when I get home from work tonight.

    If not I’ll wait till I’ve got the frame to give them another go as your advice has been echoed by most others when confronting this problem!

  • I bought a load of syringes off amazon. Small enough end to poke inside the valve.. works well
