Any student of history will not be surprised to find that someone exceptional in one area of their life, is deficient in another.

Whether his films are any good is subjective. For me they range from bland but mildly amusing to dire.

And I think your summary ("they make up rape stories all the time...") is grossly misrepresentative of what he actually said.

I think what he actually said is worse than my summary.
