I know you're supposed to match tyre to rim width to improve aerodynamics but this is not how you achieve it..

Sandwich bag socks ftw!

I'm currently running the Kinesis with a resin and a metal pad on the front. I extract the FULLEST of life from everything.

I’m sick of the sight of the little bits of rust on the threads of my surly’s many eyelets etc. Anyone tried squishing a bit of wax into them to stop them rusting? I’ll give it a go as soon as I pick up some wax that isn’t babybel skin (red doesn’t go with my colour scheme).

Most cheap non-Artisan candles, (not beeswax, not coloured),
are mostly colourless, opaque paraffin wax.
Clean up the threads,
light candle,
hold at jaunty angle,
let hot, molten wax drip into the eyelets. -

Grease and nylon bolts.

Dunno, try find black ones?
-
• #189
Or if you’re not bothered by weight weenie, why don’t you just put M5 bolts in all the holes
-
• #190
Well I found some black nylon bolts on the ‘bay. No bodging for me today :-/
Although this bike is certainly not a weight weenie. -

Ikea tea lights
These seem to be the domestic equivalent of the Gideon Bible
(that used to be left in every hotel room).
Every house has a pack of Ikea tea lights. -

A while ago I bodged this dry bag holder thing out of a over-the-top-of-a-door coat hanger thing and old bar tape. Worked pretty well for bikepacking.

Why not grease an allen bolt and insert it?
I use plastic screws things for filling bottle cage holes that aren't used. ie.

Or... what he said.

I’ve actually just ordered some of those exact same black plastic bolts. It’s meant I’ve had to fashion a pair of socks out of packing tape though, just to maintain bodge equilibrium.

Why don't you cover the holes with tape?
-
• #197
Small bits of tape tend to come away and you have to fanny about with both sides whereas screws fill the threads so no water ingress.
