the stem is original and also the rims too, though I powdercoated those. It kind of happened by accident really, it used to be a stock black 2-speed but a delivery driver rear-ended me and I ended up needing a new rear triangle and back wheel. Things just spiralled from there.
Don’t really want to think about how much the whole build cost me, probably not much more than a decent road bike I guess?

Lost the washer for the folding pedal, anyone would have one laying around? Thanks

What/How/When are you using it?
I used it to take the Brompton on an EasyJet flight to Turkey. Not long back.
I used the bag as my sole hold luggage, with my clothes around it for padding. Worked fine, no damage to the bike at all. I could, at the far end, have put my clothes into the Brompton-luggage-carrier-compatible bag I used as a cabin bag and cycled off, but my partner doesn't pack light and had her bike in a bomb-proof case, so I didn't.
Because the bag has no wheels, it'd be a struggle to carry the fully packed travel bag any significant distance if you're not in good shape. I just put the detachable straps in an arrangement that let me carry it on my back.
Worked for me, will use again.

Apparently if you have a rack on your Brompton, you can "fold" up the Vincita travel bag and bungie it to the rack.

Possible transport solution/ weekend fun?

i need to buy a Brompton this weekend, my commute is absolutely killing me, where do i get one from. cheapest ideas or specs first please. 2 speed is fine. how low can i go?!
-
• #3359
The limits that are put by 2 speed are massive compared to 3/6 speed weight penalty. Riding out of saddle on brompton isn't nice. No simplicity argument as there is a chain tensioner and hubs are internal geared. Get S6L. I need to sell mine as the electric one will be released soon but not as soon as this weekend.

but how much more expensive is 6vs2? how much is your Brompton? when would you think of selling? i'm trapped in a glass cage of questions amey

Compton Cycles in Catford usually have good stock. They’ll configure a bike to your preferred set up if they don’t have the one you want in the colour of your choice.

but how much more expensive is 6vs2?
I think £200
how much is your Brompton?
£1080 IIRC
when would you think of selling?
When the electric one is out

This is bollocks, but may be the reason that I seem to have killed a set of bushings super fast.

two speed s2l cost £1175 currently, with raw lacquer, stiffer suspension, rock hard tyres, mudguards, without the raw lacquer, price comes down to £950 if you just get normal paint..
I'd take the relative lightness of the 2spd over the gears of a 3/6, just depends how much cycling you'll be doing, I've ridden mine from white city to stockwell, about 6 miles without issue, and changing gear..

So your requirement is for a folding bike you can take on a train, not specifically a Brompton? There are cheaper folders. You can get a reasonable Dahon for less than half the price of a Brompton.
-
• #3366
yeah but dahon's are ugly as fuck though..

I have an s6l i'm thinking of selling. It's a 2006 in black. Comes with an S bag and lights.
It's actually my wifes and been used probably less than 15 times in those 11 years.
You're welcome to come and see it in Spitalfields if you're in the area. I'll be in the area today and all weekend.

is it bad or difficult to get parts for something that's 11 years old? does it run ok or need any maintenance prior to selling?
potentially keen though thank you very much.yes bruce i definitely want a Brompton and nothing else, fine with 2 speed, cheap as possible. i'm also currently based in willesden so Catford is a bit too far for me unfortunately

Changes to the design come slowly and are usually retrofittable (e.g. the rear frame clip, which was introduced in 2007 - if @Hairyback hasn't already added it, you can easily). Plus you get the fun of everybody in this thread piling in to recommend upgrades.

It needs nothing. All parts are easily available from Brompton. Modern parts are interchangeable if anything wears out on it in the future.
The design hasn't changed much over the years.
I'd be looking for £700 including sbag & frame. Lights. And xlite bar ends and smoother running easy wheels. Original easy wheels & reflectors etc included inside the s bag. -

+1 - when I use mine it's 11 miles each way, but have done plenty of longer rides on it. My 2 speed is the -7% ratio so pretty spinny, but I really don't care that my max speed is a bit low - a brompton is for pootling, not racing IMO.

• #3372
I've just acquired a 2 speed and the gearing is a bit too high for my tastes (as I pootle rather than race @villa-ru ). It's got a 54t chainring, so the simplest way to resolve would be to fit a 50t one. How easy a job is that, given the reputation Bromptons have for complexity. Is it just a case of swapping over the chainring and shortening the chain a bit?

Just cut four of the teeth off, obvs.

If it was me. I'd go to Cycle Surgery Spitalfields and try out all the different versions. Handlebar options/ gears etc. They have lots of Bromptons in there.
Then walk round the corner and buy mine.
Wow so just the main frame is og Brompton? How much did it cost?
