Order via the shop, and for the very few international orders that I do I just subsidise the additional postage from my own pocket or the forum coffers (whichever was simplest for me at the time).

I don't try and precisely figure out the international postage and charge for it in advance, and there's only ever one or two orders like this so I just go for the simplicity.

We pay VAT to Milltag.

We don't get the VAT-free price as we are not VAT registered. We are not VAT registered as we are below the threshold for it.

Only 1 merchant in a chain pays VAT, typically the last one that is able to declare and process it. Which typically is the shop/merchant.

But where the merchant sells less than a certain amount (£70-80k) annually, the merchant won't be VAT registered, and so the merchant will pay VAT to the suppliers and they are the ones who account for it.

It's not whether we sell via a shop, it's whether we sell more than a certain amount of stuff per year. And we are way below that threshold.

That only allows us to process Gift Aid. But then... we operate on such a low budget that we don't do that either. Today we don't require an accountant, but if we tried to do the Gift Aid thing we'd need to add the cost of annual accounting to claim it back, which would exceed the amount we'd gain from Gift Aid.

Gotcha. Finally, if I'm still sour about buying one but the order goes through and then I sneaky sneaky buy one from the shop, what happens?

Exact amounts and size distribution.

The shop amount should form the order.

The margin is so thin, that were we to round up and order extra... we would likely turn the thin profit into a loss.

Anyone who orders will get one.

No-one loses out. The number produced, will be the number ordered.

Those who don't order will be missing out, as we cannot feasibly produce runs of fewer than 30 and so won't be producing more unless there is a large batch like this again (probably next year).

We know from this thread there is enough interest.

I'm going to put the shop up to turn that interest into actual orders.

When the minimum order is sold we'll place the order and keep the shop open a fraction longer. This will get the artwork started, etc.

At the cut-off point for us changing the order quantity we'll close the shop and finalise the order.

It's a fairly simple process, designed to limit the risk and yet get a jersey to everyone who wants one.
