  • Viewfinder and prime is where I think I may have to compromise

  • Second hand x100.

  • I wanted something similar and I went for Panasonic GM-5, it ticks all those boxes but the image quality is poor.

Ricoh GR is jersey pocket sized, RX100, X100 at a push. But the smartphone cameras have reached better image quality and essentially have a prime lens these days.

  • f3.5? What the fuck is this?

  • Not quite as pocketable as I was hoping for

  • its interchangeable lens

  • So that's going to be way over 500 once I've had to buy a 35mm or something

  • actually a 25 is closer to full frame 50 right?

  • yep 2x conversion .. unless you really want a separate camera I won't go down that route as iPhone/Pixel has better camera.

  • f3.5? What the fuck is this?

If you'd like control of DoF you'll need to consider sensor size.

    ... or goofy apple tech.

  • DoF not so much, speed and low light more so. Although my post was just a joke because Amey is gram king and all about that #bokeh

  • I like bright lenses for willy waving purposes but I am mainly about f/8.

  • A bit of advice please, what is a very good D7000,worth with the AFS nikkor 18 - 105 ?

  • About £250 for the body and £90 for the lens

  • Mmmm...not bad might try for £350 as it mint.

  • I'm looking for recommendations for a camera that may not exist within my price range. I'm after a digital compact. Probably 500 quid or less, small and pocketable is a must. With either a fixed prime or if interchangeable, a decent small prime. Also must have either a viewfinder or hot shoe for an EVF because I'm not fucking using live view.

I think you'll probably struggle to get truly pocketable, but the below are all fairly small. Buying second you should be able to get a zoom and a pancake prime with the body for < £500

    Fuji X-E1 series
    Sony NEX-6/A6000 series
Olympus PEN E-PL1 series (with separate expensive evf)

For something that's truly pocketable, I've got a Lumix LX5. Paid £85 for mine second hand, good quality Leica branded optics (f2 Zoom lens) and optional evf

  • RX100 mk3 surely?

  • (cross post from digital thread)

Can anyone recommend a camera bag for a Canon 6D and 2-3 prime lenses? Want something black, simple and hard wearing.

I like the look of Ortliebs and Crumpler, but all their bags seems to get to fiddly when they fit everything I need. I don't want heaps of straps, zips and pockets on the outside, just one big compartment with movable dividers please.

  • Lowepro do some pretty decent rucksacks with that sort of arrangement. One main area and velcro dividers.

  • Thought I'd gone through the crumpler site completely, but just found this

    http://www.crumpler.eu/the-inlay-zip-protection-pouch-m-black

which is pretty much all I want apart from being a bit the small side

  • Had a play with an XT2 in Dixons Heathrow- snappy autofocus. Anyone got one and care to comment?

  • Anyone use Think Tank gear? I'm after a new production case - needs to fit light stands, ideally a small tripod (something like a Sachtler Ace which is about 80cm folded), couple of small Fresnel heads, a small / mid camera (ideally rigged), and other assorted stuff like switchers/decks etc.

Happy for it to be a big wheeled case but that's much easier for me than multiple things hanging from my arthritic fingers and shoulders when I'm on my own.

  • Basically looking at this:
    https://www.thinktankphoto.com/collections/rolling-cases-manager-series/products/production-manager-50

and wonder if anyone has used it/similar range or if anyone knows anything else that might do the job.

Also realised I have a boom stand which is 131cm when collapsed which can't QUITE fit in the Production Manager but I'd make it work somehow. But if anyone knows a similar case that DOES fit that, I'd be chuffed.

    Cheers

  • Reposting here as advised:

Hello people who know infinitely more about cameras than me.

After several months of deliberation and all paths constantly leading me to the Olympus OMD EM10 Mk2 + EZ lens (I want a small camera that can do lots of stuff) I bought one from John Lewis yesterday because I value good customer support and want a reliable place I can take it back to if something goes wrong.

Got it home tonight to find they had fucked up. They gave me the wrong colour model with the wrong lens and the pouch they sold me is about half the size of the camera.

As I'm going to go back there anyway, should I consider just getting a refund and either going somewhere else I might be able to get a better deal from, or possibly a different camera?

  • If you've spent a lot of time considering your options and arrived at the OMD, I'd just get them to get you the one you want and crack on with that. Their customer service is pretty good, but so is wex's.
