  • Do people know any others?

Alex R600 if you're looking for branded, but they don't have any retail distribution. Aliexpress is you friend if you want any old Chinese rims in all sorts of depths. If you're building joke wheels, go big or go home - get yourself some 70mm drillium

I have a Brown/bronze pair you can have for a bottle of Belgian beer.
They're 32h though and I expect you need something silly like 13 or 17? :)

  • Aliexpress

Thanks. They also have 90mm aluminium rims... no mention of weight

  • Thanks for the offer. I would like that.
I can drill my own holes :)

CNC bike also has a cheap 42mm rim:
    CNC HP 600

    h plus son sl42:

Maybe they all come from Kinlin

  • Noticed one of the spokes in my DT Swiss R24 front wheel (straight-pull bladed) is not 'flat', rather it's at about 90 degrees of where it should be showing off it's full flat profile to the road ahead.

Unsure what to do about this, it's straight pull, could the whole spoke and nipple have twisted together?

Not put it in a truing stand yet to see if it's out at all but never had concerns on the road, appeared true.

I guess the only answer is to get it on the stand and check the tension but it seems really odd for the spoke to be completely out as it is.

  • Loosen it off, turn it around and tighten it up? That's one benefit of j bend spokes, stops that from happening.

  • anyone have any 28h clincher rims for sale?

  • carbon?
    Alloy?
    rim?
    disc?

  • I have a HED Belgium+ rim and a Son dynamo (disc brake) hub. It was rebuilt a while back as part of a wider bike mending after an unplanned bike/car interaction. When I got it back the spokes brushed the brake caliper, it went back to mender and no longer rubbed.

It has, though, just started rubbing again, and it seems that spokes on rubbing side are all at significantly lower tension than those on the other side. Is there a North London wheel builder that is recommended for mendingness?

  • Is it possible to build or buy a set of disk-brake aero wheels (say >35mm) for £500? I think at that price carbon is out and I've not heard good things about deep aluminium rims.

Edit: excluding stuff from China. Friend might be after some and not sure he'd go for Chinese ones.

  • Thinking of building up a pair of Pacenti SL25 as a winter wheelset for my ISEN. I can currently get 28H Pacenti SL25 hubs for £27 from planet x.

What CL hubs would recommended for a moderately budgeted build? 12mm front and QR rear?

  • Buggers! They were less than £20 a month or so ago (ludicrous but I'm not making it up).

EDIT: still a pretty good deal though

  • I know! Grabbed some of the 24 hole ones back then, but sold them on as I didn't think that it was enough spokage for my porky-arse.

  • I'm sure this has been asked a bunch, but have come across a rear road shamal wheel and am looking to rebuild it with a track hub. If i get a campag track hub and make sure flange height is identical etc. will I be able to use the same spokes as these bladed ones appear to be going for silly money if/when they do turn up for sale... any help would be appreciated, cheers!

  • Different dish, different spokes?

  • See I was thinking I'd just have to replace the spokes, but would love to keep the original 90s bladed ones to lace on a new track hub if possible to match up with my front, do you reckon I'm just inviting trouble and headaches though?

  • do you reckon I'm just inviting trouble and headaches though?

Yes. You're never going to find a track hub which needs the same spoke lengths as a road Shamal

  • good to know.. will be giving that a miss then, thanks very much bud!

  • Isnt shamal spokes basically 2mm bladed? so You could use dt swiss New aero or cn spoke 494
Try measuring the spoke and see if it is 3x1mm rectangular, 3.3x1.1-1.2mm oval or there about.

    new aero source:
    https://ebike.hu/kereses/?keyword=new+aero
cn mac 494 spokes are easy to find on ebay.

  • Mack could do a custom hub in whatever flanges you want (I think)

  • Fantastic thanks, I'll get researching! Cheers mate!

  • any recommendations on an aluminium 700c 28h rim to build up thats fast but preferably non machined??(for a track bike) theres too much choice and i can't decide so i thought i'd come here to see what experiences people have with different rims.
    cheers!

  • I built some brkless wheels using DT R460DB rims recently and I'm v. happy with them. Was skeptical on receipt because they're not the best finished (they're drilled after being anodised, and some spoke holes still holes have swarf in them), but that's what makes them cheap, and it's not a problem when they're built up.
In 28h, would build 3-cross rear, 2-cross front.
Might not be deep/stiff enough for proper track training use, so maybe take a look at it's big brother, the R511DB (deeper, double the price, welded joint, nicer finish).
Indoor/outdoor track, or crit? Both (paricularly the R511DB) might be a tad narrow for crit racing, but are the perfect width if you want to run 20mm clinchers on an indoor track.
