  • I can't say I found the BR2049 soundtrack that great, the original one is much more varied (look up Esper Edition bootleg on youtube...) and in times it was very loud.

All in all, aside from some weird things and plotholes/tropes that are worn to dust and a total cringe scene (if you've seen it, probably know which one I mean) but all in all BR2049 was quite good and the visuals really awesome.

I thought the build-up was better than the wrap-up near the end we get with the sorta done to death things again...

Not sure it added all that much to the original, still worth a watch.

  • Does BR2049 feature a moving soliloquy? If not, I'm out.

  • Have to say I thoroughly enjoyed BR2049. Ended with me wanting to explore a lot more of that universe, wouldn't surprise me if there's a few more films now.

  • Alion Blade Runner crossover to really get up the noses of the LFGSS cinephiles.

  • While it wasn't as memorable or ground breaking as the original, I'd much rather see more films like that than the emoji movie, The Mummy remake or countless Adam Sandler/Kevin James cinematic turds.

  • You could argue Alien4 is a bit like that? :p

  • Doing lots of film festival stuff at the moment.

2 great films from the first few days:

A Fantastic Woman - a story about grief and healing, told via a trans character and based in Chile. It uses the trans character as a tool to express how grief can outcast the person from those around them. It's a really good film, and refreshing to see a non-sexual representation of a more complex non-binary character. Comes out early next year.

Blade of the Immortal - just a phenomenally fun Samurai movie from the director of 13 Assassins. Comes out shortly.

  • @mespilus, get junior to read sci fiction by Philip Kindred Dick, wrote a bunch of novels (60) from 'do androids dream of electric sheep' (blade runner) to 'total recall', dabbled with drugs immersed in paranoia fiction / science fiction / dystopian landscapes of the near future..

  • Kingsman 2 was shite

  • Also Ubik!

I quite enjoyed Blade Runner 2049.

  • Gerald’s Game (on Netflix). Great/horrible horror-thriller with a silly creepy-pasta ending.

  • I thought BR2049 was amazing in the same way the original was amazing; totally believable universe, amazing scenes and camera work, great tunes, bonkers but compelling plot. 9/10 loses the 1 due to the awkward scene @JWestland references above that was at least sixty seconds too long

  • It felt to me like it was this written by a 16 year old male... ;)

The original has a sorta dodgy maybe not so consentual scene, so in that way it's an improvement... ;)

  • Gerald’s Game (on Netflix). Great/horrible horror-thriller with a silly creepy-pasta ending.

watched this last night, thought it was great.

The ending was ridiculous but being a Stephen King story it didn't surprise me.

  • new Bladerunner was easily watchable but reinforced the reason why cinemas that serve alcohol are a bad idea.

managed 3x 660ml beers between the wait for doors to open, trailers and the first half of the film. got to point of actual bladder pain by about 1h40m. and again by about 2h25m causing me to be that guy who gets up in the middle of the film (twice!).

and as it was a curzon we were in a glorified living room so nearly impossible to slip out without disturbing everyone in the cinema.

but then the guy next to me was sat like a teenager on the tube slumped as low as possible with his arms at 90 degrees to his side, elbow poking me in the side and his wine glass in the 'shared' armrest cupholder so he monopolised its entire length and he ate his popcorn a single kernel at a time by sliding his fingers around the top of the bag for about 2 seconds each time until he found the 'right' piece which also meant his popcorn lasted 90% of the film.

the guy sat on the other side of my girlfriend by the aisle was laying across his chair on his side with his feet sticking right out into the aisle.

i fucking hate going to the cinema.

  • Well, quite. Deckard shoots two women, one in the back, and forces himself on a reluctant replicant. With what he thinks is his dying breath he gobs on Roy. Everything he does has a base motive. Roy's the hero.

It felt to me like it was this written by a 16 year old male.

yep, all the way back to some foxy alien lady saying to Kirk: "Tell me more about this...kissing!"

  • anyone ever been to one of those awful looking restaurant / cinema experiences they insist on advertising in odeon cinemas? square plates, 'mixologists' and the sort of people that have 'date nights'.

  • I went to a cinema near LAX after missing a flight where I had a 500g steak and a mountain of shrimp while watching a film. Service to your seat, and a little lamp so you can see what you're eating, but it wasn't pretentious at all, merely aimed at the average American who can't go more than 30 minutes without eating a meal.

  • plate status?

  • platus.

  • Deckard is a bit of an asshole in the original... I re-watched it and while i still like it his character is not sympathetic.

  • can't beat a bag of poundstore haribo and a fizzy pop.

  • Of course they were fucking square. Why did you even bother asking?

The popcorn was unlimited though and they provided melted butter by the coffee cup to cascade over it.

  • It's called Gold Class here, overpriced booze and snacks delivered to your LazyBoy by monosyllabic teens in tabards... Very popular Christmas present here, waste of money IME..
