Louis Theroux documentary on heroin addiction on iPlayer now.
Watch it for a good time, laughs aplenty and a warm fuzzy feeling about the shape of the world.
The show focuses on the users themselves but touches a bit on the issues around the over-prescription of painkillers which has been the gateway for all the users it shows. It's an interesting approach, fascinating to see the self-delusions and the downward spirals, and the romanticisation of the situations they're in. It's also Louis approach, but I'd be really interested to see the same story from the side of the legislators who allowed it to be so unregulated for so long, and who then tightened the regulations to cut off access to the drugs in a way that seems quite unmanaged.
Seems that that's also the way that drug services in the UK are going too.
I thought it was a very, very interesting show. Quite thought-provoking when you consider a fair amount of people were left out to dry by their health professionals.
It also had the usual Theroux edge to it. Looking forward to more, hopefully not quite as dark as last nights.
Huntington was also the town of choice for Jamie Oliver when he launched his 'Fat Revolution'(or whatever it was called) some years back it
Not only are 25% of adults on smack, it also has the highest population of fatties in America.
