I don't think @Ramsaye said the tree would be killed by a fox but both the foxes and my dogs love digging where bonemeal has been used so I can't use it in my garden.

Yes I know what he meant lol, the point I was trying to make from my experience of planting treees, with added stuff and different methods like one tries, I simply find that staking and planting to the right height are far more important than adding bonemeal fungi etc, I'm not saying they don't work or help but you can plant a tree without and get perfect results, I do believe that with too much goodness in the planting hole doesn't encourage the roots to spread out, cheers
Tree killed by fox that's a new one on me, I find inner tubes make great tree ties and if using only one stake then point towards the prevailing wind personally I would use a 2x2 stake which can be easily found attached to estate agent signs,
