Am only sticking with it to see if they explain how the Klingons have completely altered their appearance.

I think one kind of explanation that has been bandied about is that the Klingons you see in TOS were a specific subset which had been designed to look more like humans to enable infiltration and spying missions since they were at war with the federation at the time. It's rather a stretch, but shrug
