Also is it road or MTB? How many layers of tape?
-
• #1478
Cut, haha that's funny I just jam the valve stem straight through it
That's just how I roll
-
• #1479
How did you tighten the valve lock ring?
-
• #1480
Fingers, then a small pair of pliers
-
• #1481
I'm move of the heat up a crosshead head screwdriver and use that to melt through the tape.
-
• #1482
Ok, it's fixed

I had a stupidly expensive ~100mm valve. I'd rather sacrifice the cheap tape than fuck up the valve.
-
• #1484
Pliers? It's only supposed to be hand-tight.
-
• #1485
Doesn't look like you pushed the air out from under the tape.
-
• #1486
Rear one done, now front one still resisting.
-
• #1487
Nope, I give up, cannot get the valve to seal on the front.

This is driving me insane.

What valves are they? What rims are they?
-
• #1491
ENVE CX 29er rims, Stans valves, the tape recommended from this thread.
I'm sitting here listening to the fucking tyre slowly going down.
-
• #1492
Are you sure it's from the valve 'seal'?
I thought one of my tyres was leaking from the valve but it was actually just along from it.
Perhaps that rim/valve combo is bad? Do these look a diff shape to your Stan's?
https://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=56286This mentions special valves, but perhaps length is what theyt're talking about:
http://forums.mtbr.com/wheels-tires/enve-tubeless-kit-826784.htmlDid you do up the valve core properly?

"If you have air leaking at the valve area the problem is almost definitely that you don't have the inside of the rim sealed up well enough. Any leak in or around the tape inside the rim will cause air and sealant to travel through the rim and out the biggest gap, which is the valve area.
If you set your rims ups tubeless with tape then the tape did not adhere well to the carbon and air gets underneath it. When setting up carbon rims tubeless install a tube first and inflate to 100 psi and let set for a while to compress the tape to the carbon better. Even then you will still get some leaking, but these small leaks will seal instantly when sealant is shaken about."

When I said above it doesn't look like you've squished your tape down properly, perhaps that's the issue, not the valve.

I've set the bike on fire now.

• #1496
So far my tubeless experience has been painless*.
*I've not ridden it yet
-
• #1497
For some reason it's stopped leaking now. I don't trust it.
-
• #1498
it's stopped leaking now
The fire created a good seal?
-
• #1499
yeah! okay really tempted, might order them today.. they dont wear down too quickly then do they?
what stuff do I need or can someone redirect me to a good article telling me what I need.
I could buy the schwalbe tubeless "pack" but seems to expensive! -

Take them to a bike mechanic? Worth every penny.
You only need to cut a small X in the rim tape for the valve. Could also be mismatch with your choice of valve and rim? I've only used one combo and it's still holding air after a month with no sealant.
