  • Perfect! Will get my hands on some teflon tape tomorrow and have a go.

Have replied to your email btw.

  • I didn't realise you actually had a PID on a Silvia. How would that happen then, the disparity between the two?

  • The PID reduces temperature surfing

However the Silvia boiler is too small. So as shots are pulled the temp varies by 15 or more degrees.

    @amey has my old Silvia

  • Anyone done much experimenting with Aeropress recipes?

I have some natural process Hartmann's Geisha beans that I want to do justice - the v60 this morning was excellent but I am interested to see what the Aeropress can do....

  • Ah got you. Machine upgrade isn't on the agenda - if nothing else I'm not sure what I'd want, but I know it would be way more expensive than the Silvia we've had for four years (and cost £250 when we got it) and I don't have the budget at the moment.

I dropped the frame off at the powder coaters this morning - it's going to be RAL 2010 Signal Orange. Getting the removable 'colour' parts done from my Dualit kettle at the same time so they'll match 😊

  • Have a look at some of the recipes from the World Aeropress Championship (WAC) yep, its a thing, and yes the acronym is fitting.

I like inverted, 18g coffee, filter grind, 30ml water to bloom for 30 secs, top it up to 200ml total, stir, steep for another 90 secs (2 mins total) then press.

  • The Costa Rica Hermosa from Yellow Bourbon might actually be the best coffee I've ever drunk.
    Its incredible. Pure velvety caramel.
    Thanks @StevePeel!

Side note- for simplicity- the Heston Barista is ace. 2 years now and going strong.

  • N’awww.....

  • Beautiful kitchen dude! Can we see more??

  • This is true. I'm fortunate to live in Northampton where it's roasted.. Amazing coffee

  • I have DJ's Silvia, its going strong. With him on PID. Also have the rust problem, do you have a tl;dr solution?

  • Really enjoying the yellow bourbon Sumatra bean. Lovely.

  • How does one obtain these "Yellow Bourbon" beans, other than going to Northampton? I can only find a Facebook feed...

  • I'll PM @stevepeel 's email.

  • I'm just working on this at the moment! I'm using the man make coffee (Andy Anderson) method......on the website. Although I'm still struggling to get the timing spot on and I prefer mine stronger..

I also find that by doing into a jug and then pouring it into an espresso cup rather than in a mug it tastes better.....but that might just be me!

  • Are there any independent machine fixers in London? I can only find workshops who work if they have a contract. I really want my Wega Mini nova to work again and I have run out of talent after descaling and replacing the pump...I think it needs a new Solenoid...

  • Many machines share parts. I DIY most of mine. What is/isn't it doing right?

  • There seems to be a lot of chaff (white bits) when I grind with the Delonghi Kg79 I replaced my rather simple Bodum grinder with. I don't get this with my rhinowares hand grinder or the Bodum, that served me ok for five years. Is it a fluke of having used a new bean since I've bought it, or is that other owners of this grinder have observed.

Also, to other ownders, should I do the mod, I think a few people on here have, is it worthwhile for V60 brews?

  • When I press the button it does not pump..nothing, it heats and steams but does not trigger the pump to flow through the grouphead.

  • Not quite central London, but these guys were super helpful when talking me through spares for my machine. Maybe worth a call, at least?

  • Do you know if the pump works? Tried giving it the required voltage to see if it fires up?
It does sound like the solenoid though - I had the same issue with one of mine. I probably still have some spares kicking around but perhaps not big enough for your unit.

  • Happy Donkey are good for parts.

  • @StevePeel met a friend from Northampton who was very excited (knowing I'm a coffee head) to tell me about Yellow Bourbon on the weekend! He was equal parts excited/disappointed to find out I was way ahead of his curve. before it was cool etc.

  • Ha that’s funny. I’m thrilled about all this word of mouth stuff, that’s all I was hoping for when I started.

Landing page is live on the website now, should be handed over soon to get the webshop going but that might coincide with me going to on holiday in October half term. Should be up in November I reckon.
