  • Just came across this. Looks kind of interesting: https://tylko.com/ (for you shelf/storage types)

  • For all those who've converted lofts on here, did you use an all-in-one company that one finds online, or did you find and architect and have a builder do the work?

Seems like the firms with all departments in-house is an easy solution, but wanted to see if there were advantages of the other way.

  • i have dis

  • You can defrost a freezer with it still turned on.

  • I'd like something like that but high enough off the ground so that a robot vac can get underneath.

  • well mine is still in the box waiting to be assembled :P

  • If you like doing things the long, hard, expensive way, sure. Why not turn the central heating on to accelerate the process whilst you are at it?

  • It depends how badly 'frosted' it is but my old fridge would take about 10min with some hot water and a scraper. It's hardly breaking the bank with elec costs for me so I imagine someone running two dehumidifiers would laugh at the opportunity to use up an extra 0.05p worth of juice.

Also modern freezers defrost while they're on automatically.

  • How do you think I know they did what they did?

Because after three days of it not defrosting, they called me.

    scraper

This is how you break your freezer

Also modern freezers defrost while they're on automatically.

Not all of them do, no.

  • It's still perfectly possible to defrost a freezer while it's on. Not everyone is a fucking idiot, just most people.

Not all of them, no. The clue's in the auto-defrost name.

  • It's still perfectly possible to defrost a freezer while it's on.

You are that guy who opens the office window whilst the air con is on, right?

  • I don't have an aircon in my office and the place I'm in currently doesn't have windows that open.

I'm just glad you agree that defrosting a freezer is perfectly possible while it's on.

  • @Howard what dehumidifier/s do you have? Thinking of purchasing one myself. Looking for something quiet and small that I can put in a cupboard when I don't need it (Sounds a bit like a weird Lonely hearts ad :-/ ).

  • Can recommend the EcoAir units from Amazon. Pretty quiet and robust. Looks like prices have gone up 10% on last year though... #Brexshit

  • Have a desiccant jobby from these guys https://www.meaco.com/dehumidifier/ - they are small, silent and efficient and don't care if you move them around a lot.

Also have a compressor jobby from Delonghi that I wouldn't recommend because noisy, heavy, and doesn't like being moved around. It was the first one we bought yonks ago and is soldiering on, there's a warning light that's now always on but it seems to do the job when we need it.

  • Nice. I've made a note of the EcoAir and Meaco so I'll do some reading and get something soon enough. Our main problem is having single glaze windows so they get loads of condensation when cooking, drying clothes (although this is mostely done outside). Being in a conservation area means getting like for like double glazing is far to spendy right now.

    Cheers

  • Can you empty it while it's still running?

    \trololol

  • Defrosting freezers while they are on is what hair dryers were made for right?

I have ebac dehumidifier, would recommend

  • Typical damp-denying landlord :P

  • What's a fair price to ask for these original path tiles?
Approx 2 sq M worth, dirty but clean up well.

  • Where you based trunkie ? Could poss be interested if the price is fair and location works ..

  • Our mortgage is up for renewal in a couple of months; given all the political and economic uncertainty at the moment, does going for a 5-year fixed over a 2-year fixed make sense? Best rates we can get seem to be about 2.29% vs 2.04% respectively, but the 5-year fix will entail doing the income assessment dance again, so a bit of a pain.

  • Depends if you see yourselves moving in the next five years.

But I suppose you could port it. Check for that.

  • Everyone's situation is different, so that will affect how long you are comfortable fixing for, but interest rates are only going in one direction. Just depends on when and how far they move.
