I found I had more issues at the departure security check than anything. If Ryanair doesn't know you have vape stuff, you'll be ok, and the rules vary depending on the company: some won't allow batteries in hand luggage, some won't allow them in the cargo. It's a bit odd.
As far as security checks are concerned, it really depends on the countries though: in my experience, Germany was the only country enquiring about the actual Mod and its purpose (at the time, it was the massive but awesome Yihi SX350M), but didn't care about the batteries. All other countries I travelled to in EU and US didn't ask a thing as long as my e-Liquid was stored on bottles under 100ml in a plastic bag.
I once had questions asked about my Micro-Coil jig thingy, and the tiny scissors in France, but other than that I never had any issues.
