There were some flowers at the location as I passed this morning. A moment for reflection.

A teenage boy on his way to school performed CPR on a female cyclist hit by a lorry on Chelsea Bridge in a desperate attempt to save her life.

I don't want to politicise this thread, but I find myself asking what can we do? Cycling death is preventable.
RIP.

What a total fucking hero.

Feeling motivated by such a horrendous event to seek change in the situation and circumstances that led to it happening is admirable. However, as you suggest, this thread isn't the appropriate place to raise it. However, there are many other suitable threads about action and campaigning that you could use. Take a look in the General forum to begin with.

Years ago, during the two-week spate of deaths around this time of year (I think 2014) I decided to do something:
I took all the data available and plotted it on a map, I then made it possible for people to report incidents (inc. near misses) anywhere on the road network to their local council in order to keep the pressure on each and every council to make their council safer.
Sadly the site isn't as well used as it could be, and I have since had to move onto other things. But I still genuinely feel that the only way to change the situation is to inform individual cyclists where to be vigilant, expose how poorly the official records reflect the reality of cycling on our streets and to pile this into the face of every coucil, police force, ambulance crew and truck operator in the country.
If anyone wants to pick up the effort, or they want to promote/use the site as is let me know.

Didn't know this existed needs some real publicity and it will make a difference well done.

SKC are holding a die-in to mark it, and the total abject failure of both RBKC council and TfL to make the junction safe.
RIP

RIP rider. Thinking of all those who knew you.

Strange how people are being killed on the streets of Chelsea and yet the tfl are willing to pay for a cycle super highway along the high street and the borough refuses.
Crazy. The inept nature of the council was thrown into public eye after grenfell.
Oh...its the lower demographic being killed so it doesn't matter as long as nothing impedes the flow of cars at all costs. -

Putting a face and person makes this tragedy so much more real.
I can't believe that k&c still don't want cs9 that tfl are funding through the high street. It the very least they could do to show that they care. -

K & C is very car driven. Boris gave them a consultation re the Western Congestion charge zone. They voted against it and Boris ( against his better wishes ) rescinded the Western Congestion charge zone.
Must say I was moved by the tributes to the lady rider in The Standard. I often pass the location of the collision.
This just should not be happening. -

K&c are a bunch of pricks. Post grenfell now everyone knows. All they give shit about is there own bubble which is Chelsea tractor as soon as they leave the front door. Heaven forbid if anyone should inconvience them.
^this. It's sometimes hard to appreciate how devastating it is for others besides the deceased.
We need to make big steps forward for everyone's benefit.
