• Up for sale is my faithful cross check, I've owned it several years and it was the first geared bike I put together from the frame up. Its done a bit of everything in it's time from commuting duties, longer Audax rides and racing cyclocross, as solid all-rounder's these frames can't really be beat. Unfortunately I have recently replaced this with an AWOL to which it donated some of it's parts (namely the shifters) so the cross check has to go to make some space now.

So it's not quite a complete build but I'll list all the bits below and put a price for everything together but equally if the frame/forks and wheels sell I'd be happy to split stuff up. I've taken a whole bunch of pics of everything in an album here:

The frame is the 54cm size in black, as you would expect from a cross check with several years of use, it has numerous paint chips and scratches most notable of which is probably the inside of the non-drive side chainstay where tyre rubbed after my wheel slipped out in the opening lap of CX race and cable rub on the top tube. Tiny dent in the non drive side of the top tube and the surly decal has half been removed on the same side so it just reads "cud" . One small annoyance is that there is half a bolt (broke when I tried to remove it) seized into the mudguard eyelet between the chainstays, a bit of heat would probably get it out or it could be drilled, can still mount guards using the three other attachment points. Otherwise the frame is still solid as ever but I have tried to capture the imperfections as best as I can in the gallery. It will come with the Modolo down tube cable guides.

-Surly cross check original forks: barely used, these are the version before they introduced the mid-fork eyelets, steerer has been cut to 22.5cm (pic in gallery) and they have a Chris King crown race installed.

-Ritchey WCS full carbon 1 1/8" canti forks with carbon steerer. These are the version with no logo's and a nice gloss black paintjob bought from LBS came from someones team bike. Couple of minor paintchips on the fork legs and some paint missing from the bottom of the dropouts (see gallery). Steerer has been cut to 18.5cm, again Chris king crown race installed.

-Pink Chris King No threadset, 1/1/8", bearings smooth, couple of minor marks to the anodizing, no top cap.

-Thomson X2 90mm stem +/-10 degree rise, original hardware, good condition overall few minor marks, see pictures.

-Thomson 27.2 inline seatpost, again good condition, little bit of fading to the anodizing on the back side and a scratch on the right side (pictured).

In terms of seat post clamps I have the Surly stainless steel seatpost clamp that came with the frame that has a cable guide with barrel adjuster for cantilever brakes. or a generic black one. Either can be included with the frame.

-Cannondale C3 compact drop bars, 44cm width, marks from old bar tape otherwise good nick.

-Tektro Mini V brakes, these have seen less than 500km of riding as I installed them just before moving to cambodia for two years, I will include the cables (for road shifters) and outers that were fitted with them.

Alternatively I also have three sets of cane creek SCX 5 cantilever brakes that I can include instead or in addition to the mini v's, useful if you plan on racing cross and want more mud clearance!

-Wheels- Shimano Deore hubs on mavic rims, 36 spokes front and rear, brake track in good condition as these saw very little use by me, bombproof touring wheels. black hubs and spokes look nice with the frame. quick release skewers included and I could be persauded to throw in the schwalbe marathon tire on the front wheel.

    • SKS bleumel chromoplastic mud guards, fitted nicely (on the original fork) to run with 32c tyres.

-Sram Force carbon crankset, GXP, 175mm crank arm length. 'standard' 130BCD. quite a lot of scuffing to both crank arms but still perfectly functional. I will include a lightly used GXP bottom bracket, chainrings bolts. aIf anyones interested I can also throw a set of worn cyclocross sized double chainrings which have a bit of life left for a beater build. Otherwise new chainrings needed.

-Sram Force 10 speed front derailleur, works fine, will include the seat tube clamp need to use it with this frame.

-Sram Force 10 speed rear derailleur, again works fine however the barrel adjuster on it is threaded, simple solution would be to use an inline one in the cable run.

Also have a used Sram 12-27 10speed cassette which could be included again has enough life for a beater build.

    Everything for £425
Otherwise in terms of splitting it up:
frame and original steel forks: £125
    Ritchey WCS carbon forks: £80
    Chris King Headset: £50
    Wheels £60
    Thomson stem £25
    Thomson seatpost: £20
    Sram force cranks £35

  • Good prices! You can get more for the thomson kit and the Sram stuff you know. I’d chuck them on eBay if the split happens.

  • I've done a bit of research and tried to price fairly but I'm sure if anything is off then people will let me know. Dibs followed by PM as usual and I will try to honour them although preference will go to those taking multiple bits.

I'm based in York and collection is possible but I'm happy to post, buyer to discuss via PM. I have bought and sold quite a bit on the forum over the years and have posted 3 frames before without issue. When the majority of stuff gets sold I will make another donation.

    Thanks, Ben.

  • Thanks, to be honest they were both second hand to begin with and I try to price stuff to sell on the forum to avoid ebay if I can!
