Visit Berlin and cycle in the Velodrome

Posted on
  • Hello, We are planning a trip to Berlin and if possible will bring our track bikes to get a session in at the Max-Schmeling Halle velodrome. We've been there for the 6 days a couple of times and it would be cool to cycle the track ourselves.

Anyone know what times that the velodrome is open for cyclists and who to speak to beforehand?

We have Swedish track licenses and have been cycling on the track a few years. We have ridden international speced and wooden tracks before.

Thank you in advance for your help!

  • I think the velodrome is only open to club members..i have never tried to get on there myself, but someone complaint about the impossibility to get access to the velodrome in an article for a german newspaper

  • My friend went to Berlin and was hoping to use the track but it was not possible. He was able to use Frankfurt though.

  • Thx for the replies!

  • All the replies are accurate. Unfortunately you have to have a german racing licence and have to be a member of a Berlin cycling club. It's pretty unfortunate.
the reason is that the velodrome nowadays is owned privately and frequently used for events like concerts. The city of Berlin has to rent the place and pay for every day of use there.

It's a shame, really, because its a super fast track.
