Help me spend my money : from pompino to custom

Posted on
  • I ve been happy with my pompino for the last few years.

A fun and cheerful ride, but there is always been a few niggle: it's heavy and i always straggle on any climb.
The realy slack seat tube is not that good for my short legs.
So i start thinking about a new bike with a geometry thats more road oriented but still able to fit large tyre and most of the part from the pompino
My plan was to have an aluminium frame made by Vetta in italy ( whichalso made my track frame ) but then i started thinking that maybe i can have a deraileur hanger for future use as a 1x, that imlpies a 130mm rear .

But then i thought : why not go steel, rocker dropouts, disc and tapered haedtube???

As you can see the price of the project has escalated quickly

Now, do you guys think that is worth spending so much more for what basicaly is sgoing to be a glorified pompino?

  • Totally worth it. Just make sure you know what you want before spending any big $$$

  • @turkish had something similar made

  • yes i totally love is bike. it s one of my ispiration
My big question is if i need disc or not on what is going to be a citybike..
And in reality i want disc just because i hate rim that are not all black (or carbon)

  • Get discs. Fucking love this bike. 100% worth going custom

  • which columbus tubing is this?

  • Zona OS. I basically copied @negaatio 's Orlo and @psee 's Rych

  • Custom will be 100% worth it. As @heldring says: know what you want
Also imho sliders are better than rockers.
Either way looks like an exciting project

  • Some unexpected dental bills (ouch) has decided for me, blowing out all my budget for the new bike. the only thing that i could have for cheer me up is a new lick of paint for the old faithfull
i think it look cool and it have to do while a save again.I need some new cable and i m thinking that silver stem and post can look good.

  • You can move your saddle further forward if you think the ST is too slack. The Max forks with canti bosses are pretty unique!

  • with this fork that is shorter the seat tube is a bit stepper and i feel better.
By the way the fork is a custom orlowski and it 's not max it's just some look alike but it look cool
