  • There is no bike that can be left unlocked in London.

I only need to lock it because it's too heavy to take up stairs ;)

  • There are no stairs at the Anchor.

  • btw Kew Bridge details:

  • And yes it seems the green light for cyclists will be at the same time as the green light to go STRAIGHT for motorists. So no turning left vehicles.

  • This is the part I don't like. Not sure why they didn't go behind the bus stop (because of the train station entrance?)

I mean right in front of the bus stop, cyclists will go left onto the cycle track again. So clearly there's loads of risks there.

  • This is quite a change! No access to South Circular from Wellesley Road!

(same for Stile Hall Gardens, where traffic can, however, go in to)

  • Which is good, it's always packed with cars, effectively locking in people who live in the area (as there's no space for them to go contraflow)

But cyclists loose the ability to go straight onto Capital Interchange Way or, to put it differently, in the Leisure Centre.

  • Eventually it will be stolen, that is true. But the point of a beater is that if it's nicked it's not a massive drama. I would still throw a D lock on my beater but I wouldn't really give a shit if it was nicked compared to any of my other bikes.

  • Hammer frozen beaters into their locks.

  • Really not bad at all...couple of minor points, but overall very pleased with it. As said I'd have gone all the way with single direction tracks for cyclists, instead of a shared one for both directions, particularly in Chiswick High Road...but overall quite nice.

  • The leisure centre is disappearing. Will be knocked down in the near future.

The stadium development changes everything on that side at that time, and these junctions will change again at that time.

The proposals to close off Wellesley Road have been circulating as resident surveys for around 18 months now. They appear to have a lot of local support, I imagine that happening regardless now.

  • As said I'd have gone all the way with single direction tracks for cyclists, instead of a shared one for both directions, particularly in Chiswick High Road...but overall quite nice.

I've looked at those bits quite hard, they're attempting to solve the major flows of cycle traffic and how to handle the various junctions (the major ones being Northerly off Chiswick High Road) and I think as an overall thing the balance is probably more right than wrong.

A few niggles around Kew Bridge, that overlooked junction near the bus station (where traffic turns left to cut through to Hogarth Roundabout), and some questions about the long-term stuff near where the stadium will be... but it is pretty good overall.

  • Yup, it is. Didn't know about the Leisure Centre being knocked down or re the survey for Wellesley Road.

Yep indeed, overall very good stuff!

  • Looking forward to this, pretty much right from our front door (pontoon) into town. Shame it stops at Olympia, and double shame the rest of Brentford High St going West is for a later consultation. Looking at crash map data, there have been a lot of incidents involving cyclists on that section of the high street between Syon and the market square.

  • After Olympia it is Kensington and putting in cycle space would mean less space for lambos - which obviously no-one wants to see.

  • This will raise the pressure on Kensington though - it'll increase the flow of cyclists into town, and make the gap in the infrastructure painfully obvious.

TfL should offer Kensington a choice between a cycle lane and average speed cameras on every road in the borough, calibrated with no mercy.

  • " make the gap in the infrastructure painfully obvious."

Hasn't had that effect on hackney yet, where it isn't lambos but busses that must have priority.

  • Weird re hackney, as I had thought they were the ones pushing bike usage a lot more than the other councils.
Kensington borough is a real bitch in terms of making the borough cycle friendly.

  • It's the Kensington High St bit of the east-west commute that puts me off doing it, especially coming west in the evening rush hour. Wish that was addressed in this scheme - hopefully in the future?

  • Kensington borough are a bunch nimby Tories twats. Who dont take kindly to a cycle path to there nice high street.
Remember that Many of the residents are very well connected. The residents of billionaire row Kensington palace gardens got there street off a cycling map of quiet ways. That was with no material change in the road.
I'm glad the a40 cycle path got axed mind you hopefully this will put pressure on sadiq khan and tfl. The current strategy is the cycle path either end of Kensington and shame them into submission. Don't hold your breathe.

  • I learnt to swim there.

  • They push it but have stalled at 9% by population or some such. And are ideologically opposed to segregation. This is of course nothing to do with Vincent Stop's close association with the bus companies.

  • It would be great if the congestion charge was re implemented in Kensington and Chelsea. It was removed by Boris about a year after his mayorship and a cornerstone of his campaign. To much happiness of the toffs and there range rovers/x5/q7.
Then blackmail with one or another.
Since it was there 8 years ago it wouldn't be too hard to implement.
Come on labour... do it for red ken.

  • Hi Backstop. Do you have evidence for those four assertions? (9%, stalling, ideological position, close association with bus companies)

  • Lots of cyclists should go there and ride exactly to the letter of the law - taking the lane to stay safe, riding at a safe gentle pace, and stopping at every red light.

Total grid lock for a week would serve them right.
