thanks both... so, possible in theory: good news!

Do you think it's the kind of project that most frame builders can manage, or might I end up having to find a frame builder who's willing to experiment a bit?

I guess a bit more old school frame builders will be into this. Try not to approach a builder with less than 5 years experience. Here in the Netherlands I know Blacksmith and St. Joris have experience with silver soldering stainless to carbon steel.
