I got involved a right mess this morning. South on Holloway Road and in the bus lane I hear an ambulance siren. Looking back I see it's travelling in the bus lane too. Me and other cyclists slow and get on to the pavement. It passes. Then a 4x4 weaves in its wake and joins and leaves the bus lane getting v close to cyclists. At the point where the driver wants back in the bus lane I'm in the way. And I stay in the way. The driver's going nuts mouthing get out of my way and banging the steering wheel. I look at her. Puzzled. That's when I saw the flashing blue lights under the bumper and in the grill. I move left to clear her entry to the bus lane and cause a cycle pile up because I didn't shoulder check first. 3 riders and the policewoman find our way into the Majestic wine car park. All riders are OK. Scratches. Bikes ok too. The policewoman was calm as we all were. We agreed it was a miscommunication and that was an end to it.
PS. I was on my way to observe a cycle training course.
PPS Why no siren?
