  • After finding myself unexpectedly without a road bike (granted, I sold it last saturday, so it wasn't all that unexpected), I decided that I needed something a bit more efficient than my old mtb to get me to uni and back. I'm planning on buying something "proper" next year, so this will mainly have to get me through winter, maybe more if I like it. Got this frame for free a while ago, not in the best condition but it'll do for now:

Never heard of fishfee before (neither has google), paint is actually fairly nice & sparkly, but has quite a few dings. The plan is to go 1x9, flat bar and 28s with mudguards. Would love to squeeze some mudguards in, but frame clearance is questionable:

Generally, I'm trying to go as cheap as possible, so using parts I already got would be useful. If I can use everything I'd like to, I'm probably only lacking brake levers, headset, chain, brake pads and a decent chainring. I think I'll try a 36T with 11-32 in the back (some hills plus my general unfitness demand compromises) and see how I like it.

Fork is raw right now, are there any drawbacks to just slapping some black hammerite on? (other than visual, but it's gonna look questionable anyways, plus I got the paint here already)

It might not be the best adhesion but Hammerite can be painted directly onto light rust so I'm sure it'll be ok. Primer would be best though (preceeded by a decent clean and degrease).
