In excessive quantities I would agree, as they go rather watery. In moderation, with liberal quantities of cinnamon, I think they complement baked apples rather well. Depends how much lemon juice is used though, as it helps offset the sweetness of the baked raisins.
Nuts in a strudel are, however, very very wrong. I was so distraught to find nuts in my strudel last week I nearly didn't have a second one.
