Ahh my favourite. As I slammed into the side of him at 25mph.

I've done this, cabbie drove off
-
• #255
In my case he stopped, got out and stood five yards away with his arms crossed shaking his head. As I lay in the road bleeding. Charming individual.

Oh, and about that conflict of interest:
-
• #257
They've just spent 2-4 years driving around the city they will be working in, that's better than most Uber drivers. They've managed to keep their lic. that long for starters.
And with the Knowledge they're watching the road instead of a GPS. -
• #258
Out of interest, has anyone not deleted their Uber app yet?

Pulled up alongside and slightly behind a black cab in a turn left lane at red lights. Driver lent over and politely asked if i would go first when the lights went green. I said I backed off to let him go first but he was insistent. All very nice until I turn left and immediately have to swerve to avoid some zombie crossing the road.

How black cabbies wage a social media war against cyclists, Uber:
https://mikehind.co.uk/podcast/2017/10/13/episode-4-uber-and-the-taxibots
The conversation on Twitter around this issue was found to be led by a
number of key accounts identifying as taxi drivers, but some of which
appear to be automated. The creation of hashtags and memes designed to
question Uber's safety record points to a sophisticated astroturfing
operation. -

@paultmadden's retweet network, portrayed in Mentionmapp:

"Either they've got a lot of time on their hands, perhaps because of Uber, or there is some very sophisticated automation going on".

And with the Knowledge they're watching the road instead of a GPS.
Lots of black cab drivers have a GPS nagivation in their cab.
-
• #269
I saw a cab yesterday that had a big bloody tablet next to the driver with a map of London on, so much for remembering stuff.
-
• #270
Lots of them don't. They can't know everything but they're a shit load better than minicab drivers who spend half their time on the GPS half their time answering another phone.
-
• #271
They could be running Hailo on it.
-
• #272
You don't need a 15'' to tap 'accept'
-
• #273
Don't they run live maps for traffic etc??
-
• #274
You don't 'need' a tablet to do anything. They still seem popular though.
It's also going to be quicker to spot a location of the passenger's device than get some kind of text instruction, unless it's a very specific address and they're not moving, so it makes sense to have a phone or tablet for this new kind of pickup tech.
-
• #275
Sure, but I'd argue it's pretty distracting looking at a big fuck off screen on your passenger seat.
Don't forget the random u-turns...
