And its there if you ever need it in an emergency, win. There's really no reason not to have one.
I'd never tell anyone to fit one in the street though, let alone snitch to the coppers. You're entitled to make your own choices.

I'd be tempted to snitch on a driver using their phone, if I spotted a copper shortly after spotting the offending driver. I suppose it's not all that different to snitch on a cyclist who is going brakeless, as it's also illegal and potentially dangerous.

Yep this. Also, by snitching on you in the way he did he has actually managed to achieve his intended outcome and no actual ill has come of you, i.e. you are now proposing to fit a front brake but you didnt get fined or have your bike confiscated.
