I can't remember the specifics (think I'll give them a ring tho just to make sure I've measured up everything properly) but the necessary chop down will completely remove all the threads that are currently there.. So a fair amount of threads need to be cut. It seemed like it was just a flat rate + the cost of shortening the steerer. He reckoned £15 all in all so I'd hazard a guess at £10 for the threads to be extended and £5 for the chop down.

@MCamb @Aroogah I took one to cycleps and they took it to sea bass I think. I was told they cut down through the existing threads (ie not cutting the top bit off then cutting threads into remaining unthreaded tube) and it was priced by cm of thread cut which meant that it was quite expensive to make a long fork fit a small frame.

You may find that cutting that much off the steerer leaves the butt very near the top, which means your stem quill insertion depth will be limited, possibly terminally. Best to check that before spending money chopping it down.

Unbelievably the owner of the land got rid of them by yesterday afternoon. It turns out he is very well connected in Ireland, he made a few phone calls and they literally scarpered. It was pretty amusing to watch from our bedroom window. Many bullets well and truly dodged. The mess they left after just a few hours was astonishing. They really do not help themselves these people

I need a set of chainring bolts with the thicker part above the threaded part. I only found the ultegra ones which are more than 20€. Do they have a particular name? Would like to find some cheaper ones for traditional allen keys.

Do your chainrings not have the recess which would center the bolt using the outer edge of the bolt head?
Torx is better, but double-allen chainring bolts are still way better than traditional notched-nut chainring bolts.
Apparently they've lent their 1 inch thread cutting tool thing out to another bike shop, the search continues...
