My favourite piece of kit the Technivorm. 60g per litre works perfectly. I tend to use 1l of water rather than the full 1.25 it can hold as then the extra 15g of coffee in the filter can cause it to overflow if you grind a touch too fine.
Use Melita size 4 papers from the supermarket, I think there is a Swissgold reuseable filter but I’ve always had better results with paper in any brewer.
Hassle factor is minimal. My favourite thing is putting the machine on first thing, going for a shower, then coming down to a litre of coffee with no dicking about. Very little human error factor as long as you weigh the coffee and are reasonably accurate with water level. I rarely mess with the grind setting for it unless I’m making a half batch which it does very well too. It tastes excellent and stays hot for hours, flavour drops off past about 2 hours but it’s still very drinkable. Cleaning just put the cone in the dishwasher and fill the carafe with puly caff and hot water.

I looked on eBay for them recently, there were a few thermal models around the £180 mark (new) earlier in the year but they seem mostly up around £220 now.
Edit - decent price here: https://www.thecoffeemate.co.uk/p/filter-coffee-maker-moccamaster-kbgt-741/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwr53OBRCDARIsAL0vKrNxSepvnYAoz26DxvgcsfZhEphSzd9gRohWuVP6wNQAQwZVbd2wwDUaAsIvEALw_wcB

Cheers Steve. They've been on my radar since I saw one in Prufrock about 8 years ago but never summed up the courage. Not sure which model is right for me (from memory I've come close in the past but seeing about 200 varieties on their website I've put it off). But I drink, for better or worse, a lot of coffee these days and would like as minimal disruption to my working life as possible (because working from home with a 7 month old is plenty thanks) so thinking after a busy few months I'll deserve a treat soon.
On a side note - how's the website coming on? Will there be some functionality for subscriptions? Would be great to have some Yellow Bourbon equivalent of an Amazon Dash button : ) or in the short term some good cookie usage for simple one-click re-ups (either beans in bulk or different click for different grind settings assuming you grind as well? I've ground my own so far but would consider a weekly delivery ground if we're really weighing up taste vs convenience).

Repped.

My pleasure. See the link above, that’s the kiddie.
Website is excitingly close including subscriptions. Order history reordering I’ll mention to the developing bods. It’s being done by some friends who do this stuff for the bike industry - they’ve worked for Bianchi, Extra, Absolute Black and others. The front end looks great, just need to figure out how to work the thing.

Thanks to @mmccarthy I spent a fun morning at lmnh Whitechapel today learning about making coffee, cleaning tables and generally helping out(I hope).
I peaked after about 6 espressos in an hour and had to step out for some fresh air.
I made some hopefully passable takeaway drinks but I'm a long way from having any real pouring skills or latte art just yet. My hands need calibration and a lot of practice.Great fun.

Ta for the link - apart from size is there much difference between the KBGT models and the CD/CDT?
As for the website...
-
• #13309
I can’t really see any difference between the KBGT and the CDT, I think it’s just a styling thing - CD is for Clement Design.
Just looked up Amazon Dash - never heard of it before, but I think that’s a long way out of our league! A reorder button in your confirmation email or purchase history page does sound doable though.

@StevePeel, when you get the subs going would you be able to look at packaging that allows a 250g order to fit through a typical letter box?
Hasbean changed their packaging to achieve this and it makes the process hugely easier from my pov.
Thanks!

Current setup as it stands. Haven't used the Chemex much since I got the espresso machine last year.
Just finished working my way through the Machina Sierra Moreno and Kibingo after finishing the 10 bags of Monsoon Estate Espresso that my missus' folks kindly got me for my birthday.
Next up, something from Steampunk I think.

That setup should do the trick!

Ha - was joking about the Dash. One day..!
-
• #13314
Yeah I went through all this at the other place. I’ll take a look at how Hasbean do it, but BB ended up sending multiple 1X250g packages. This nuts and bolts stuff is what’s going to take time. Happily business is growing fast and keeping up with the shop is a challenge - the website is a response to customer demand, I didn’t plan for a webshop until year 3, never mind month 6! More stuff to file under nice problems to have.

Fucking bastard fixie skidders demanding mail order coffee from the outset and ruining your business plan.
Can I haz some more please?

• #13317
Yes, that’s what BB did for subs. Do you get 2 separate packages when you order 2 bags or can they get 2 bags through the letterbox?
-
• #13318
Ha! Absolutely, drop me an email :)
-
• #13319
I don't know; just have a sub now so get 250g at a time.
Looks like might just be able to get get two of them through a letter box.

• #13320
Cool. I’ll order 2x250g and see what happens - in my experience mail order customers tend to order 2 or more bags for one-off orders to mitigate the faff. Always nice to get stuff from other roasters anyhow. Just ordered a bag of Square Mile’s nat process Guatemala, looking forward to that.

I'm trying to disassemble the group head on my gaggia classic, which I have never done since I bought it off someone on here. Shame on me.
Anyway, the two Allen bolts holding the shower screen holder on are rounded off. Agggh.
What can I do?
In the meantime, I am hoping that thoroughly descaling and cleaning the shower screen will get me back on the road.
Update…
A lovely clean shower screen (used the flame to burn off gunk method) and still no flow out of the group at all. AND, I have now noticed that there is no flow through the wand either.
Help?

Does anywhere sell coloured Acme cups and saucers individually?
Ideally just want 2 each of latte, flat white and espresso cups.
Can only find them being sold by the dozen. -
• #13323
Have you descaled it? That’s a likely culprit for blockages.
-
• #13324
Will do next. Thanks.

How to descale it without any flow through the head and wand? Just put some descaler in the water tank and turn on the pump for a bit?
Mrs CYOA saw this post and asked: "does it keep it vorm?"
